http://www.highexistence.com/topic/evergreen-state-college/ ..marvel.. started the topic Evergreen State College in the forum Following Your Bliss http://www.highexistence.com/topic/evergreen-state-college/ Thu, 20 Jun 2013 08:04:13 +0000 So, I’m an environmental studies major, currently attending Olympic College through the Running Start program. I was planning on attending Huxley’s College of the Environment at WWU, but recently i’ve been thinking about Evergreen. They have a heavy environmental studies focus, and seem like a pretty badass school in general.

I’m wondering if anyone has attended Evergreen or known anyone who has. I’m specifically inquiring as to whether or not one is employable after graduating, because although it;’s fine and dandy to attend a kick-ass liberal arts college and smoke alot of pot in the forest, ultimately I would like to be able to have a job.

Thanks for any input :)

I like where this discussion is going :)
There are actually already some pretty good ideas about how the brain causes consciousness. These ideas have come in part from studies on the neuroscience of meditation! For the real specifics you should look up the science yourself (way too much to explain here). One great theory that I personally like is that of Raffone & Srinivasan, the adaptive workspace hypothesis.
Furthermore, I find it really hard to believe that consciousness is not caused by the brain (not just awareness but full blown, phenomenal, consciousness), since changing the brain (taking drugs, head injuries, comas etc.) directly changes consciousness. Functional brain areas have been shown to be necessary for consciousness (like the visual cortex is necessary for visual consciousness, without it, you can't consciously see).
And maybe it is an interesting idea that consciousness is not produced by the brain but there other way around, like quantum theories suggest, for now it does not seem necessary to look for another solution than basic science.

Most people don't realize that quantum computing could tell us a lot about how our brains operate, especially if the quantum brain theory is somewhat correct.

The best way I can try to explain it is that consciousness is better described as being awake, this is not the same thing as awareness.

Awareness is unique to life, all life has it in some measure, even rudimentary life has rudimentary awareness, the greater the complexity of development generally is relative to awareness.

But what is being awake? We would automatically say that you are either awake or asleep, but what defines that difference? Awareness?

I think awake is related to motion on a more fundamental level, anything in a state of quantum flux is awake, and that is pretty much everything, vibrations at resonate frequencies give all things with substance their substance.

This is what consciousness is to me, I would best describe this discussion as on the topic of awareness because that is more relatable to the brain than consciousness.

like this is what we are going to turn in to. We need to stop making life 'easier'. The point of life is to do things. I love food, and i dont want to be eating paste for my whole life... It kind of makes me sad that HEthens think this is a good idea... I mean don't get me wrong it is fascinating for sure, but the fact that people are actually doing this is insane.

Did it make sense to you? The guy was dead like 3 times? Then God fired a cannon from the guys chest?? It was 20th episode, so... dunno. was cool though.

And everyone else - yuyu hakasho and full metal alchemist are examples of what I don't like. I tried watching like 1 episode of each and couldn't do it. They just try to be too cute, and then ultra serious at the same time. Just ruins it for me..

There was one show I watched. I think for some reason it wasn't part of a season, just a short film.

Guy wakes up in his apartment. The cops are after him. The cops are, I think, robotical, and they are (and the guy they are chasing) are on motorcycles or hover crafts. The main character has like this huge harley but the cops are on hover crafts. He eventually evades them down an alley way, but something is wrong. The sky is blood red and smoke is everywhere. He looks over to a junk yard, and this enormous golem of mechanical parts starts building itself from the wreckage strewn throughout. It gathers an arm and a leg and begins to construct a body. The man on the bike rockets away, but realizes its happening everywhere. Suddenly all the metal in the world starts constructing itself into these monstrous robots.

Was one of the most epic shows I have seen in anime

In states of meditation I have found that I can detach my consciousness from my head and instead perceive from any part of my being.

More recently I have found that I can take this ability beyond my physical being and project my conscious awareness just about anywhere.

When BTC is bought the value goes down, when it sells the value goes up. It sounds weird, but it's based kinda on how many overall transactions happen compared to how many BTC got moved. If 1 person bought 100 BTC one day, and there were 30,000 transactions that day, and the total moved was 150 BTC, then the value of one BTC would fall. If one person sold 100 BTC, and there were 30,000 transactions and the total moved was 150 BTC, then the value would go up a lot.

So if one person has 50% of the BTC, then he really can control the value..but since that hasn't happened yet (thankfully) it's rather unpredictable.

The only problem I could see with the mailing from SR is that our post people here won't deliver mail if your name isn't on the mailbox. Kinda tricky to figure that out unless I risked it straight to my door. @heedthem,
