HE Life Lesson #1: Love or Fear

Here’s another simple piece of knowledge that can drastically change your life for good if implemented. This concerns how every thought, word and action has its roots in one of two basic emotions — love or fear. Once you have this knowledge, it’s dead easy to discern which one is giving rise to your next thought. The challenge is in deciding which one is going to give rise to it.

I like thinking about what is black and white in our existence.. This is an interesting statement to me.. Initianlly I want to say it can’t because there always seems to be a spectrum of choices .. but.. If I agree with the statement couldn’t I say that all of those choices are steming from either love or fear.. what about the power of hate?? Is that just a byproduct of fear..? always..?

    hate is fear.

Think about anything you’ve ever hated. It’s probably given you a bad gut feeling, if not, if you delve deep enough you’ll find that the hate is actually fear of something. Fear of pain, fear of abandonment, it could be anything.

  3. Yes, I think that fear, worry, jealousy, spite, anger, etc. are all by-products of fear.

Haha, this reminds me of the Fear vs. Love lifeline clip from Donnie Darko.

This reminds me of the 2 forces in Green Lantern^^
    Willpower (=Love) vs. Fear

    so simple :) <3

  7. Simple and very very true. Can’t belive some people don’t get this. Applied to reality, this stuff turns life into paradise. It’s that simple.

  8. Seems like a bit of an oversimplification of Tony Robbins pain or pleasure. For a start we’ll always do more to avoid pain than gain pleasure, harsh fact but we can use that to leverage us to new heights.

What about drug addicts.. or gamblers.. or extreme risk takers.. all forms of addiction I suppose.. but they don’t avoid pain for pleasure

  9. They avoid the pain of giving up, giving up an addiction is possibly one of the most painful experiences going, it is a constant battle unless you can get some superb NLP hypnotic work done on you but who has a spare 20k lying around to pay for Mckenna or Bandler.

    Hi guys!
I just created an account about 5 minutes ago, almost entirely because of this article. When I try to sort every move I make into a category, and it’s amazing how the root of every action really seems to boil down to love or fear. Even if it’s not an obvious primary root of an action, I’ve found that tracing motivation back far enough leads to one of the two. Thank you for the insights! I’ll try to keep this in the front of my mind.

  11. This makes me think of Donnie Darko and as Donnie once said you can’t just put everything between love and fear

This also reminds me of that scene in Donnie Darko..Here’s a quote:

“There are other things that need to be taken into account here. Like the whole spectrum of human emotion. You can’t just lump everything into these two categories and then just deny everything else!” -Donnie Darko

  13. yo man, I know the people above me just said this but you should really watch donny darko.

I almost completely agree that it’s either love or fear that motivates our actions and emotions. In the movie, Donnie’s card says she takes the money, but it doesn’t say that she has a family to feed or if it’s for a drug addiction. Either way, she took the money out of fear. Fearing that she lacks something. The book I’m currently reading (Steering by Starlight – Martha Beck) really hits on the point that there is this place in our minds that creates a fear that directs our entire life if we let it, “lack or attack” as she calls it. We are constantly being told we don’t have enough or that there are all these terrible things that are out to get us. That is fear.
Now, if we look to love, we find our true selves, the people are souls are dying to meet and enjoy life with. We are chained by the fear of losing our possessions or that we aren’t good enough, so we stay in our unhealthy relationships and our soul-sucking jobs, which ultimately kill us. But love.. that’s where we need to be to be truly happy. Doing exactly what you want to be doing without fear because there is absolutely nothing that can harm you when you live in happiness and love.

I could just ramble on, but point is: love or fear. Those are your options, please choose wisely.
