"Every day, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can."

"I wake up one morning to the most awful noise I have ever heard. A shrill, scratchy, warbling, pulsating siren whose volume is just on the edge of being painful. I run outside in my bathrobe to try to find the source of the noise, but it is directionless. It seems to be coming from all directions, everywhere.

Standing there on my front lawn, I notice all my neighbors are out as well, many with hands pressed against their ears, some running around franticly like they have mosquitoes trapped in their ear wax. Every dog in the city is howling, adding a thousand dissonant harmonies to the awful noise in the air. I ask a neighbor what it is, and he doesn't know. Spotting a news helicopter overhead, I turn on the local news. The report says that the noise is not just in my town. It's being heard everywhere, all over the world, and its source is still undetermined.

Everyone wears earplugs while we wait for the noise to end, but it doesn't end. Weeks pass and no one can figure out where it's coming from. Scientists are baffled. Unsure what else to do, the Pentagon raises the National Alert level up a few colors. Business and commerce falls into chaos, as no one can communicate clearly over the deafening noise. Houses and businesses are retrofitted with soundproof walls, and this helps, but the noise still gets through. Few can afford the level of soundproofing necessary to totally silence it. Special "Soundproof Cafes" begin popping up everywhere, featuring soothing nature sounds and white-noise to counter the Noise that gets through the ultra-insulated walls.

People begin to develop innovative new ways of communicating. Millions learn sign language. Others constantly wear earphones connected to tiny microphones, which they can swap with whoever they need to talk to. All music concerts but the loudest rock shows become obsolete. For the average working man, there is nowhere on earth he can go where he won't hear the Noise at least as loud as a muted trumpet.

Years pass, and society rearranges itself. Slowly, people adapt. They get used to the Noise. Kids develop street slang for it, like "The Banshee" and "Old Squeaky". Musicians begin writing songs to incorporate the Noise, which most agree is more or less a C sharp. Eventually, there is an entire generation that was born with the Noise, and has never known a world without it. The Noise becomes a part of life.

Fifty years later, the Noise just stops.

Everyone on Earth instantly goes insane.

Society crumbles. Crazed and senseless, mankind stops reproducing. One by one, everyone dies. The human race becomes extinct.

It is now very, very quiet.

"Q: Why do you have so much faith in creativity? -Everett Ruskin

A: Because there is a moment that emerges when the creative process itself seems to "talk" to the artist. Those who have listened deeply to this "voice" that echoes the rhythms of the universe, and can recite its reverberations back into the stream, are capable of creating work that can enchant the very cosmos itself. So I have faith in the surrender and acceptance of the creative act and the humility to know that a great artist is but a conduit for an expression that resonates with something that is greater than him or herself."

"Life is a funny thing. We all run around day after day, filling most of our time with 99% meaninglessness. When we do get the rare 1% moments that stand out and propel us along on our way and allow us to accept mediocrity and the daze of the other 99% of our lives, we just accept that this ratio is all there is, and that this is how things were meant to be. What if this was the opposite? What if 99% of our lives were filled with meaning and joy, while only 1% with the meaningless drone that now fills our days? I think that we make this decision. I think our whole lives are an amalgamation of these decisions that we are constantly making every second. Will I truly live and reach my full potential in this moment, or will I allow myself and my precious time on earth to be filled with the inexorable ineptitude that most people trudge on doing for their entire existence? I’ve found that this decision is constant, and for the most part subconscious. Only once one realizes that it is in fact a decision can anything of any real substance be done. Even upon this realization, it is difficult to take life by the horns and really live at all times. If you begin to listen to your soul and your inner being and what it is telling you to do, the path is quite clear. But the mind doesn’t want this path. It is almost as if the mind is constantly trying to sabotage what the spirit knows it should be doing. The mind tries to rationalize and compromise its way out of following the gut, and this is what prevents us from living. The mind traps us in living as everyone else does. From following the cut and dry path. Going to school. Obeying authority. Going to college, which will lead to a job, and a family. Then next thing you know you look back and you have done everything everyone else has told you, but are not fulfilled or happy, because you never did what YOU wanted. What you knew you wanted to be doing. Its not about hedonism or selfishness. It’s about living and fulfilling what your destined to do. This is not destination like some sort of predetermined path that you are meant to follow or anything like that. YOU create your path! That’s the wonder of it all. Nothing that exists in this world and beyond would be as it is if the brave men and women that stand out in history had not gone against the grain and followed not what others told them could and couldn’t be done, but what they knew THEY could do. It’s these people we read about and semi-worship, but so many people don’t realize that these aren’t some assembly of demi-gods that we must always put on a pedestal as having done great things, but that they just realized something that we haven’t yet. We can all do literally anything! We can sit around and allow our minds to convince us that the safe path is the only sensible thing to do, OR we can throw caution to the wind and create something that only we are capable of creating! The implications are truly staggering. We create our own limitations. Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll land among the stars. This is what we used to read in our first grade classrooms, but such truer words have never been said! Shoot for the universe more like it! Anything is possible. We exist in order to turn this possibility into tangibility. I aim to do this. And I will."
