Amsterdam or the American Southwest
I have myself a conundrum here. I’m saving up money to move out of my grandma’s house and move out of state, preferably to New Mexico or Colorado. For the past few years, i’ve always toyed around with the idea of buying a one way ticket to amsterdam and just seeing what happens. The logical part of me says it makes more sense financially and geographically to keep saving to move to the southwest. But the fun, passionate, follow-your-heart part of me says "Go, discover yourself and amsterdam, don’t worry what happens, live in the moment!" and i really don’t know what i should do. I’m looking for some wise advice about this, do my fellow HEthens have any for me?

that was a good joke you made about finding my prince charming and growing old togheter. after 30 years of marriage and 16 of them in the himalayas, three kids , he dumps me for a young asian.!! isnt life an adventure man.!
we have to go for it and see where it takes us. dont have any illusions,my dear, ever! from the looks of your photo you can find a sweet lady to love with out a problem.
WHOA it’s like the HE fairy left me a bunch of awesome advice under my pillow! I’ve made my decision, Amsterdam it is! But I still have some quandaries about it. Like how do i tell my grandma, whom i love very much and is also a friend to me, that instead of going back to college i want to move to Amsterdam? She’s pretty open minded, but she would be so worried about me and that makes me feel bad for her. I worry about her too, and i just don’t want her to worry herself into a stroke or anything
Amarielias, you give some damn good advice! I think in the end my grandma will understand, i just asked her to dinner on monday and that’s when i’m gonna tell her my plan.
Thank you everyone for being so nice and inspirational! You guys gave me the balls i needed to really follow my heart, i love you guys!
I vote for Amsterdam! I am currently living the dream after having a similar conundrum. I had many opportunities and finical security a little over a month ago in NC. However, i had an intuitive bliss that told me to just say fuck it and leave my comfort zone. I hitch-hiked for a little over a month and now I have found a place live with new opportunities. I have been living with little to nothing but i love every fucking minute of it. Just set your mind to it and fucking jump in over your head.
I live only four hours from Amsterdam, so I’ve been there multiple times. It really is a whole different world compared to the states. The city is beautiful, artistic and alive! It’s fully of Irish, English and Dutch, so it’s really easy to get around with the language. Yet, if you plan to stay at all you’ll have to pick up some Dutch to work. An all day pass for the train is only 7 euro (they won’t tell you that). And everyone lives on bicycles there. If you’ve never been to Europe, it’s highly suggested, and it’ll be life changing for you.
HA, im laffing at this discussion. i did the same thing way back when. packed up, left sunny southern cal. sold my vw bus and headed to amsterdam. i ended up marrying a dutch man and never went back to usa. so you see sometimes you have to follow the fickle finger of fate!!
I have never been to Amsterdam or Colorado, but Colorado sounds pretty cool:
Especially the protected areas. It would be awesome to see the Pony express trail (God I’m a nerd)
I’m in amsterdam, if you decide to come here i’ll show you around, don’t know if i’ll be much help, but just so you know you have someone you can contact.
It is a very big step to take, making it a hard choice to make, i’m not someone that take so many big chances, i’m always staying on the safe side, but like they said, maybe it would be worth it, I wouldn’t know.
for the sight go to Colorado, for everything else Amsterdam:) *Amsterdam has more work then south-west America, there are many more opportunity’s and we don’t have ridiculous rules here :) plus there are many people like you from all over the word in Amsterdam.
