Are machines a way to get around our limitations?

The human brain in itself is limited. It cannot, and never will understand itself. We cannot understand our brains by using our brains. However, mankind has created computers and machines. Is this a way around that? Or are computers just an extended form of ourselves? We evolve with our computers, but can they show us something we are incapable of, or is the limitations of the mind entrapped within the computers we create as well?
