Can we learn from fish?

I had a conversation with a friend about aliens earlier. Which went from alien life forms being unlimited possibilities one being not having to breathe much like fish. Then the conversation came to our sad existence. Do you think we could learn from fish? Or have any other animals who have a better concept of living? EDIT: Brings me to my newest quote: What you going to do when death is not afraid of you? These are just rants and thoughts I’m just throwing out there/sharing even if no one carries interest. |

We definitely can learn from fish. We can learn from everything around us! Especially animals! After all, in the grand scheme of things, we are the same as that little fish. It’s just a much more primal person in the eyes of nature. Drawing wisdom from animals is such an ancient and valuable tool to have. I’m not quite sure what you’re saying when you say you’re embarrassed to explain the workings of our world? Elaborate on that would ya? |

Haha Kirk, why did you pick fish? I think we could compare ourselves to any other animal in the same way. I feel like this clip is appropriate: |

Em, the first comment on the video was kinda clever don’t you think?! Its cool though… I didn’t get it either..fish? :O |

| Daniel
Um… not really in this context. They don’t relate to us in any way other than being living creatures… |

We may be sad, but fish are still dumb asses. It is a very romantically human thing to be smart but depressed. |

@General, what makes you believe fish are ‘dumb asses’? For all we know, we are the fish swimming in the fish bowl thinking we have bigger and better things to do. |

@Sisyphus The world being sad because the big picture is everys basically competing to buy things they obviously don’t need. Buying a new car every 5 years just to buy something you can’t afford, basically living your life for things you don’t need. If you think you need a new car every 5 years there is something wrong in your head man! I know there’s such a thing as having money and buying things cause you can afford them, but really? As for saying fish don’t have any relation to us, they both live on earth and live a completely different life. I guess it was a shot in the dark to choose just one animal to use, but still i prefer the thought of fish being teachers. This video is soo cool hahaa |

Kind of like how communism “doesnt” work. It in our cultures blood to do things a certain way, and I mean human culture. If we had been practicing communism for hundreds of years I’m sure we would all be pretty good at it. Maybe not strictly communism, but that idea. We are incredibly smart, but we still cant learn from ourselves |

Alex when a fish throws a string with a hotdog on the end out of the water and pulls me in, rips my skin off, and eats me, then I’ll consider them slightly smarter. |

@tits Well humans are at the top of the food chain? I can’t picture anything changing your mind if thats the case. A smart alien would certainly make us all feel stupid though |

I think that if you think the world is a sad place, you should try to spread your knowledge to make it a better place :) |

Aside from being at the top of the food chain, we can solve problems, build shit, organize ourselves better than any other animal… Kirk – “A smart alien would certainly make us all feel stupid though.” Ya no shit. That’s like me saying “a smart person would definitely make a less smart person feel dumb.” |

Any problem we solve, is a problem that we created. I don’t see any other animals making shit complicated for themselves. It’s taken us 1000s of years to just feel ‘comfortable’ |

Show me a complex industrialized fish society with public works, technology growing at an exponential rate, food production systems able to feed everyone and a defense infrastructure capable of warding off predators. Then we can consider learning from them. Other than the aerodynamics of a fish’s fins and scales, there isn’t much to learn. |

@Daniel I have a feeling he’s talking philosophically not about technological and societal learnings. @Kirk I see what you’re saying. The foundation of human civilization as we know it is materialism. It’s just not right. Hey that’s what Fight Club is all about. “You are not your fucking khakis.” |

@Em what did you search in youtube to find that video my computer can’t pull it up by that link. I wonder about fish occasionally. I live close to a china town and if I visit the market, there is fresh fish auctioned and sold off everyday. A lot of them are alive when they are put on the ice or put into a small tank within one inch of another fish all trying to swim away. Sucks for them really. I’m not a vegetarian or anything just it would suck to go out that way. To me, they are part of consciousness but they lack the brain capabilities to be so important. |

@Daniel – fish never have world wars or struggle to find meaning. They rarely run out of food and usually always have a place to live |

Fish eat their kids. If anyone really thinks fish have it all figured out then go grab some scuba gear and leave this man made hell we call society. |

@Keenan, Humans aren’t eaten alive by other humans and it’s all chill because it’s just how the ecosystem works. |

If fish can teach me how to breathe underwater then I’ll agree. |

@ DanTheMan– sorry about that.. The name of the clip is “Humans Are Monkeys,” if you search youtube for it, it’ll come up. It’s 3:53 minutes long. It takes on a perspective that we’re way stupider than animals.. I find it hilarious :) (and for the most part, very true) It’s worth checking out, if not for anything else, a laugh. |

its not the actual sense they can teach us something, maybe if I said help open our eyes to a pure lifestyle? Also @tits agian when I say a smart alien will make us look stupid, hahaha that does sound absurd and your right. But if it takes a smarter life form to show us how stupid we are then were not very smart in the first place to acknowledge our stupidity as a problem, and think were smart for doing so are we? We shouldn’t need smart kids to let the dumb kids know their dumb. @em I love the video hahaha |
