My roommate and I got into an argument about “energy”. He said that when someone is an a bad mood they put out bad “energy” and that it is possible to sense this. I said “Duh, It is easy to tell if someone is in a bad mood by the tone in their voice, or their facial expression, or their physical mannerisms ect. But that is the only way.”

So I went on, “If what you’re saying is true it should be possible to sense someone’s mood with absolutely NO physical contact. That means that you should be able to stand next to them and without seeing them, hearing them, or touching them, determine their mood.”

After I put it like this my roommate seemed less sure. What do you guys think? Can you read people’s energy or vibes without interacting with them in anyway?

I have found with people i am really close to that sometimes they can be feel so strongly that i pick up on it without physical cues. I have picked up on my partners mood whilst we have been focused on different things and not looking or speaking to each other and sometimes that can rub off onto me and change my mood.
It doesn’t happen often, i think most of the time we pick up on physical cues without even knowing we are doing it.

Isn’t visually seeing a person, hearing their tone and feeling their presence the same as sensing their energy? Its all energy that is being received. I don’t see any difference.

Even if you were to close your eyes and not see them..what is the point of deciding whether you can’t “sense their energy”. If you don’t perceive…the communication link is broken..thus no energy is being perceived ….since your open link..is now closed.

If you don’t allow the energy to be sensed and re-constructed in the mind, I feel that it would have no affect on your mental state.

I can usually feel vibes of people, their energy, posotive or negative, flows around them and the people around them. This is easier with people i know. The five senses help alot with detecting what a person is feeling and how their mood is. I can read it in there movements, facial expressions, and overall way they react.

@searchingforthetruth, you make a really good point there.

@searchingforthetruth,
What I’m getting at is: Is there a way to pick up on someone’s mood without physical cues? My roommate believes that there is some metaphysical energy that we can pick up on to determine someone’s mood without visually seeing a person or hearing their tone.
So to answer your question: Sure when we visually see a person or hear their tone we are indeed sensing their energy. But with out these physical perception I am arguing that it is not possible to pick up on someone’s mood. My roommate, and many others, on the other hand think that there is some other way way to pick up on someone mood due to some kinda of metaphysical energy that we all radiate.

@kathompson1121,

I think you both are focusing too much on a insignificant aspect..thats my opinion. It is all energy.

Tone of voice is a sensation of energy, its the subtle vibration of air molecules..which as we look further is made of nothing but energy.

First of all, people who want to be read will be read. I think it would be very difficult to feel the energy, even with looking at them, of a person who was trained to contain emotion (cop, soldier, agent, etc.)

I think that our senses are out senses, and it seems to me like we don’t know enough about our own minds and bodies to know for sure whether we don’t actually have like a 9th sense for ‘energy.’ I’d like to think it were possible, and I think I might have been able to feel it a time or two myself, but idk…

@searchingforthetruth, I couldn’t agree more with your comment that voice is essentially vibration, which is energy. But you are missing the point of my post…

If you know someone is standing next to you do you think you could determine their mood without hearing them, or seeing them, or touching them? I think not. Sure everything is energy, even brain waves. The only way you could determine someone’s mood in the above situation is if you can read their brain waves, which is ultimately energy. And if you can perceive and interpret that energy than I am amazed. But I think it is impossible.

That nature of my post and thought experiment requires a very specific focus so of course I am going to pick nits.

Yes you can read someone’s energy. But it’s very different sort of translation depending how you receive the energy. They’ll be things you may consider dark. Or bad that someone might just think is “Intense” because people have different thresholds and it can be relative to what your experiences with energy is.

You can get really deep into this. There is a connection with diet, and or if you may choose to go further into veganism, that you will feel more subtle energies and even be hypersensitive to reading things you never even felt before.

Kind of like you know depending what mood your in you are more or less receptive to certain things because of your energy level. I.E being sleepy versus you just had a crazy work out. It can fluctuate. But you can train yourself to maintain certain energy even just being more aware.

@lytning91, I agree with you sir. I too have thought I was able to “sense someone’s energy” But after my thought experiment I have to say it was based on all physical cues, not some 9th sense for energy like you say.

It seems someone could easily set up an experiment to test this. I would be surprised if it hasn’t been done, but I’m having a hard time finding anything. It would be interesting to see the results.

I think it’s possible. Have you ever walked into a room after an argument between two people? To me it feels dense and heavy. I usually don’t have to see them or hear them fight to know that something happened. But on the other hand, that could be residual energy from the actions and not necessarily being emitted by them at the present moment… As in, you wouldn’t have to stand next to them to feel it.
But I get this sensation in the hallways at my school, walking past people I can feel a magnetic pull or push as others walk past. It’s a little out there, but I can definitely sense it. However, I can’t fully determine what mood or emotion they have, only whether or not it is strong or weak, pushing, pulling, or stagnant. Or I’m just bonkers, that’s most likely a better explanation.

Rub your hands together really fast and hold them close together. Or run as fast as you can as hard as you can. Then try to sit still and be really at rest. When you feel your blood moving around and your breathing you might find certain kind of energetic feelings travelling throughout your body. Those are the simple things you could try. Or have somebody else do this and then you sit quietly as you can next to them with your eyes closed?

Not sure what you mean by the 9th sense. But I’d say try meditating more and you will surely get there.

@fyrirrek, 9th sense was a bit of a joke. Meaning that since I’m not using my 5 senses, sight, hearing, taste, touch or smell to determine someone’s mood I must need some other “9th sense” to do so. I don’t know how you would use your sense of taste or smell to determine someone’s mood but thats besides the point. Sight and hearing are the main senses we use to determine someone’s mood, ie their posture, or tone of their voice. If your not using these 5 senses to determines someone’s mood then how can you? Unless somehow you can use you sense of touch and somehow feel the brain waves a person emits and than be able to translate these minute, subatomic vibrations into how they feel. I think that that is impossible.

@kathompson1121,

Maybe its possible to determine the way they enter the room? Does that count?

Otherwise, if you had all your senses closed in a double blind study, I would not say that it is not possible. That’s really the only way you could do that experiment without that person receiving any clues via their senses touch, smell, sound etc.

We can’t count out any sense that may be indeed super strong where one could indicate the mood. (Maybe supersmell like a dog can detect sweat indicating nervousness) etc

The point I was making was that, that person cannot even be in the same room, since there are too many indicators that describe that persons mood without it being labeled as metaphysical.

i catch vibes extremely easy , it tottally happens. As soon as someone enters the room or opens their mouth its ussually easy for me to pick up on how theyre feeling, also i catch peoples vibes extrememly easily too. Great when your surrounded with amazeing happy people, but on those other days .. well you know

I don’t know if I pick up vibes or if I interpret body language and appearance.
But I know it should generally be possible, if not unconsciously it should at least be possible to use a specific technique consciously.
I once did that during a train ride. A girl sat opposite me and I imagined very hard how it would feel at my hand if I would touch her and generally tried to connect with her, and after a while a name popped into my head. Next time I meet her I will verify if it’s really her name, she is on that train every now and then. But that thought of the name was totally different, hard to describe…

Everyone has their own energy and yes, it is possible to sense it without any physical cues. Just tune in!

I use the word vibe, so bear with me, but I can feel people who I am deeply connected with across the world. I could tell when my best friend, who is closer to me than any of my family could be, was in deep trouble because instantly I felt something in my head. I didnt know what it was at first, its not Spidey Sense, but I could feel that something was wrong. When I got off of work, I had a message from him telling me about it. I believe that vibes are somehow related to quantum mechanics, where an action on one particle can affect its twin particle across the universe.

Its almost like mind reading.. which is why I may hesitate to talk about it. Views on things like that arent always very open, but I know they are real from absolute personal experience. Im getting to the point now that I am beginning to actually see flashes of their auras. Especially in anger. I can sense the energy of strangers in the room, which are usually confirmed by the slightest gestures.. practice by seeing people objectively, putting yourself totally “in their shoes”. Treat your mind almost as a blank slate, keeping basic human understanding at the forefront, forget your subjective views and instead imagine another’s. Its great for expanding ideas in any case. Whether you are connected with energy or not.

@bongodeburrito, very interesting theory, el duderino (:
ive given this type of phenomena thought before, but I guess never from a quantum viewpoint. I wonder just how connected we all are. If personal relationships yeild stronger results, (that is, if we could actually measure it) then what do we make of the not so personal?

This has opened up a lot of ideas for me, thank you

I think it is possible. If you’ve been with that person for a long time or if you know that person very well.

@cosmicplur, According to a lot of philosophies, we’re all just one universal conscious. Some parts of it may just be more connected to others, like personal relationships. I dont know exactly what it is or how to prove it, I just know I’ve experienced it and that’s proof enough for me.

@bongodeburrito, my hope is that it is all connected evenly, yes you may feel things stronger with those close to you, for obvious reasons, but I believe you can have the same connection with strangers of a totally different world view, its just a matter of truely knowing yourself. We are all one, just different takes on the same thing. When we see ourselves in others, our higher self and theirs are very much the same essence. We hide it with our egos, but those with a keen eye can see through any mask.
