Cold Shower Challenge!
I just read all of the 50 life tips That Jordan made, and I found this one to be one that I could do. I am going to try to only take cold showers for 30 days.
So, I challenge YOU to do the same, or at least for a week. I have no doubt it will be hard to do, I take showers that are barely below scalding, so it will take some getting used to.
Post and tell me if you are going to do this too

Yeah, that a nasty temporary downside. :D
Because I start taking cold showers before this 30 day challenge, i will keep taking them after my 30 days expires.
Masochistic as I am by nature, i can’t wait colder weather to see how i will feel after taking a cold shower.
Could say everything i do in life in past few months i take as a challenge to improve myself.
All started when i discovered HE. :) Love this place ;)
the first day i did this i just turned the cold water on so it was almost painfully cold. since then ive been turning the hot water on a little bit, so that it is still cold water, but more tolerable, and then once you get used to it you can keep making it colder. anyway, i’m about a week into this and im lovin it.
@Davor/everyone: don’t make this a group challenge, i would win, i’ve been taking cold showers for over a year and a half now. though u might say i’ve been cheating, since i have no option, living in a third world country. If any one wants to try and up the challenge take a bucket of cold water (no bigger than 5 gallons, i use about a gallon/gallon and a half when my water isn’t working)and use that to wash. my friends that do that regularly tell me they will never take a running water shower again.
as far as warm vs. cold, on the rare occation (twice to be exact, when i have been able to get warm water for bathing) i have found that at the end of the day a warm shower gets me cleaner, but the cold is better in the morning. if i had the option i would always have cold morning showers to wake me up and take warm ones in the evening, right befor bed, to clean me and get me ready for sleep.
After taking a shower outside in -6 degrees Celcius during the winter, I am up for this challenge. Awesome idea, glad you suggested it and people are up for it! I am going to regret this in the morning, but who knows :)
I have to thank you guys. If it weren’t for you, I would have “choked” this morning.
I was just standing there in front of the cold shower and my desire to go in was like.. a 1/10. Then I thought about this challenge and everyone else doing. No way I was gonna be the guy who pussied out on Day 4. So I thought , “JUST DO IT” and went in.
Focusing on my breath really helped me this morning. As soon as I let my breath get out of control, I get fucking cold, and when I focus on calming it down, it’s not so bad at all.
It’s been 10 days now, and I’ve finally started enjoying them. I take a 2 minute cold shower every morning after doing yoga and at night after training i take a half-warm, half-cold shower and it feels amazing.
Definitely glad I took on this challenge ‘cuz otherwise I would never have stuck beyond those first few days!
@shivvy, Hahah touche.
@mindfuck, Well I am not a doctor but it is a normal reaction from your body (increase of heartbeat) to a ‘surprise’ reaction from the cold water touching your warm body. I do not know if and how harmful it can be for somebody with heart problems to take cold showers like that, but you could inquire your doctor if it can do any harm to you.
I never experienced these kind of pains while having cold showers, only shivering from my body or pain on my head because of the extremely cold water.
I Skipped my morning shower before going to work and didn’t take time to do one afternoon, so i took one just now. Right before bed.
For 3 days now I don’t have any hot water in my bathroom. :D
At least, my electric bill is going to smaller than usual. :)
So I tried the cold showers for a while..I went a few days..but I don’t know..I just didn’t feel like I was cleaning myself with the cold water. That may or may not be the case..but I still felt dirty! LOL so now I just wash with hot and finish up with cold water…I still feel great afterwards…and I feel clean!
I’ve successfully made it through the challenge! I didn’t know what to expect what I started, but it turned out to be one of best experiments I’ve ever done.
It inspired me to write a quick blog post about it.. for anyone who’s done or is doing the challenge, you will quite enjoy it I think!
Let me know what you think!! :)
So. I showered. Cold. And I literally laughed, lol. And thought of all of you.
*no, I will not divulge the contents of said thoughts….as much as I worry about the wisdom of letting the imaginations of some of you run wild…*
It was fun. Exhilirating. I could not KEEP doing it, for like, life, you know, sorry, but my curly hair needs warm wetness to absorb moisture. However, for my body, and my rinse off, I could see using cold water more often. I enjoyed it.
Haha Matt that’s hilarious indeed. This morning, I kept alternating between yelling and laughing out loud.
It’s definitely super challenging but knowing that other people are going through the same and getting a bit stronger everyday because of it makes it really cool.
Been following this thread for a few days now and finally decided to join the HE community, so thank you to whoever started it. I’m in my third day and got to say it’s getting easier to just jump right in. I know this is all kind of masochist but I kind of enjoy that initial shock. After the shower I feel great. Will definitely keep doing it for at least another 27 days.
