Cold Shower Challenge!
I just read all of the 50 life tips That Jordan made, and I found this one to be one that I could do. I am going to try to only take cold showers for 30 days.
So, I challenge YOU to do the same, or at least for a week. I have no doubt it will be hard to do, I take showers that are barely below scalding, so it will take some getting used to.
Post and tell me if you are going to do this too

Try this… when get in the shower and say to yourself, first: ‘This isn’t going to bother me at all’ , very camly get in and say ‘this doesn’t bother me at all’ , try to avoid all the cringing and psycic yourself out, cause then when you jump in your almost freaking out lol .. just concentrate on how your nerves feel, tell yourself it’s just a feeling, not cold.. I’m only on day 3 now lol.. or you could cheat and not make the water freezing! :)
Good variation, Michael. I’ve been on and off it for a couple weeks; cold showers usually after a workout or end of day, warm when I’m forced to get up early in the morning for work and whatnot. Or I start warm, finish cold, start cold and finish warm. Admittedly I haven’t been repping pure cold, but my shower nob doesn’t do any cold variations; it’s just the straight coldest it can possibly be. Still feels ‘warmer’ and not so bad after about a minute though.
Just made it through my 3rd morning. Since I started I’ve been hooked, I’ve been taking 2-3 cold showers a day. The improvement in the look and feel of my skin and hair is amazing. I can’t believe such a simple life adjustment would yield such great changes.
i’ve been taking these for two years now – since I first discovered HE – still loving my great circulation and immune system! I take them on and off since I also stopped using shampoo in my hair – it’s pretty difficult to thoroughly rinse with ice cold water once your hair gets long and thick. But then again I should probably just get a fucking haircut :P
While someone can see this as a group challenge where they can beat others, I see it as a personal one with a reward of healthier and stronger body. That gives me enough strength to jump into cold shower. Be cool ;)
Em, don’t do that. I mean I visualize everything…man..just don’t do that XD.
Anyhow, you’re supposed to go cold during the first minute, just don’t get out of the shower before you notice that you’re body is warming itself up again because that’s sort of the point.
It isn’t much easier for me yet either.
I do notice that after a cold shower I feel more refreshed but slightly less clean. I guess starting of warm and finishing cold would be ideal in that respect but still, the shock would be greater I guess. My skin is getting better and better though.
Lol @ theory of relativity… true!
I stepped in today after doing a long (30 minutes, it’s long for me) meditation. In the shower I tried closing my eyes and getting back in that meditative state. Basically, trying to forget where I was and just focus on calming my breath. Worked really well!
It’s so cold in my house atm that when I stepped out of the shower, I could clearly see my breath lol. The hot matcha green tea (with a squeeze of fresh lemon) I’m having as I write these lines feels like heaven!
This thread inspired me to try cold showers a few times. I felt energized and in a positive mood. Not that I’m attributing my entire mood to a cold shower, but it definitely gets me out of groggy morning mode.
I also thought about the times in life when you are expecting hot water and it turns out to be cold. I don’t recall enjoying that, but it’s much different when you have the intention of taking a cold shower. It’s interesting how your mindset going into it affects the outcome.
Ah! I started this today… and I have to say, the first part of it kind of sucked, but then I felt so warm drying off, and my skin felt a little better today too! I’m definitely going to continue this. Oh, it also woke me up just like jumping in the pool first thing does. Whew!! :)
From my experience, it’s a lot easier transitioning to cold showers by starting the shower out hot for a minute or two… get used to it, then slowly adjust the knob until it’s cold. It definitely doesn’t shock my body as much as going straight into the cold, and since the majority of the shower is in cold water anyways the benefits are still there.
I first tried this a couple weeks ago, came up with some lame excuses to not do it, and then started again last week and have been taking cold showers every day since. My method is to start my shower at the temperature my roommate left it (usually very warm) and then turn the knob all the way over to as cold as it can go. I always hold my breath at first, because the cold water takes my breath away anyway.
At first, I took very short cold showers. Then, within a few days, the rush wasn’t as powerful, and I began to extend them. I’m at about 5-6 minutes now.
As soon as I am dry and dressed, I feel very warm, which lasts for a while. It’s not like an uncomfortable warmth, it just feels like my skin is radiating heat. This feels great when I get to the office, which is like 65 degrees.
The feeling overall is very invigorating and awesome.
I’m realizing that my electric bill (to heat the water), and my water bill are going to go down as a result of this (water bill drastically). My showers last 2 minutes flat…I’ve been telling more &more people about it, and unsurprisingly, they think we’re all crazy ;) I haven’t been able to recruit anyone outside of this site.
Just took my first one today and although I cheated by having it be cold water similar to drinking water (vs “coldest” water like ice water) it was an interesting experience. Part of what was so great wasn’t just the mental clarity but the feeling of accomplishment for doing something simple yet challenging. I was very aware of how the cold felt on various parts of my body, my torso being the most difficult part. This makes sense as the cold would cause my body to concentrate its heat around the core. I also found that splashing cold water on my body before being completely submerged was helpful.
This reminded me a lot of hydrotherapy techniques, which help the lymphatics, circulation, and detoxification. What you do is sit in a bath of very hot water for a few minutes before switching to a bath of very cold water. This is repeated several times. For more convenience, you can do it with a shower by switching the water temperature from very hot to very cold. I’ve never done it though as it sounds very unpleasant but perhaps once I adapt to cold showers I’ll give it a try.
I am being such a baby this winter :P Its too cold outside for me to want to take a cold shower, but then I don’t want to go back to hot showers, so its always a battle in my head haha. Then I give in and take a warm one but then I feel bad and switch it to cold after less than a minute. I should just get over it and start out cold like I had been doing, but it just looks so scary when I’m standing outside the shower…
One thing I noticed is that its pretty dangerous to shave my legs in a cold shower. I haven’t nicked myself since I was 15, but now that I cold shower I’m bleeding all over the place. I think I’m just slicing open all the goosebumps or something. Weird. So I switch it to warm when I shave.
I’ve been doing them for about 10 days and I’ve seen a huge difference in my complexion. I’ve suffered from rosacea around my nose for a few years now and these cold showers have pretty much eradicated any trace of it.
Plus I love the feeling of stepping into the cold water and thinking ‘OH YEA, that’s right’ haha
One downside to these showers is that your dicks shrinks but don’t worry, it won’t last ;)
Also, make sure the bathroom is heated before you take the shower, stepping into a cold room after a cold shower is not pleasant. If I make it through this challenge I will definitely do it again in the winter. I’ll let y’all know how I’m doing in a couple of days :)
Oh good–james I’m doing the same exact thing, but I didn’t tell anyone bc I feel like a big p*ssy :) The first day wasn’t so bad, but then they’re so cold I can’t breathe straight and its literally painful on my scalp. Anyways, I’m with you :)
I´ve been taking cold showers since 3 months now and its amazing… gives me a kick in the ass every morning and I really need that :D I also think it increased my general mood and body condition :) over all a really good thing to do!
@Zon, I believe it is a myth that being in a cold environment has anything to do with catching a cold. What’s more, according to this source, taking cold showers even stimulates the immune system.
