The way I see it is that you have to detach yourself from the popularity races that facebook hosts.
Facebook has become integrated into most peoples lives as a means of communication. It’s also beginning to integrate itself with other sites and apps to make signing up for such sites quicker and easier.
I don’t agree with the whole vanity aspect of facebook. Designing your page to become as “pretty” to other facebook users as possible and posting to seek a reaction from others are all levels of lower consciousness in my opinion.
The same can be said for twitter. I myself have, admittedly, become a frequent user of twitter and to be honest this topic here has made me think and re-evaluate my reasons for using the site. As @creds said, facebook is a great tool, the danger is when it becomes a new reality, a new world.
Twitter and facebook can, if used in an improper manner lead us down the path of trying to impress everyone and further away from that goal of higher existence. However, if used properly, I believe they can act as a catalyst for change and personal evolution.
