Ever since I was 5, I’ve kept journals about my life. One entry back in the day was, “byrds r lifin n my groj”… so clearly not being able to write didn’t stop me from sharing the excitement of those icky creatures flapping around so close to inside my house. It’s always been a way to figure things out in my life. Just for schedule purposes: I have multiple post-it notes on my computer at all time, and physically on my desk, and in an agenda…and some days organizing is taken to a new extreme when I have daily to-do lists. If I write it down, the meaning is tangible, and I can take it from there. It is also a way to let out the chronic case of verbal diarrhea. Reflection is something I’ve recently forgotten to do, and I’m trying to get back into it so my brain doesn’t explode from not organizing my unfiltered thoughts.

There are a few epiphanies I’ve had that have always stayed with me. Here are a few rando direct quotes and excerpts from these that I always use as a reminder, however obvious they seem:

“I just gotta let things be. Be unfiltered. Be a process. Be imperfect. Be honest. Be patient.”

“I hope that the next family hurts just as much when they give up that house, because that’s what it is all about. I hope its so so good to them that they freak out on their 20th birthday about moving.”

“I guess every coast has its perks right? I’ve never been one to be sentimental, and material things are just that- material things. Anywhere I’ve lived has been special because of the people that were there. ”

“If anything, after this summer I’ve learned to be more like Katniss and less like Ana.” [ The only two books that were read were The Hunger Games and 50 Shades of Grey]

“Don’t let anyone tell you that finding the humor in every situation is a bad thing, surround yourself with people who embrace that.”

“And I can face it. if anyone can, I can face an awkward situation and turn it into comic relief.”

“But that’s growing up, I guess, and if anything I did that this year. I improved, I got stronger, I tried new things, I took on more, and held the ones I loved close. And there’s still room for more.”

“Change is scary, but how else would you grow?”
