April fools guys =D I’m happy to have you all.

But on a more serious note, I made a video about what I really think of Manimal.

@trek79, There’s a big difference, in my opinion, between saying that you are not always right, and believing or acting like it. Sure, he would say that, but his attitude and the way he approached everything said something completely different. But that’s just my interpretation. I personally wouldn’t have banned him, but I understand why they did. I feel that if you don’t like what he has to say then just ignore him, simple enough, I’ve been doing it since he’s been here.

@smalls, that’s fair enough. I personally have had good experiences with him, frustrating no doubt, but he has caused me to think in much more depth and detail about my possitions than anyone on this site. Now I wouldn’t say I have won against him and he has won against me because we have both come off our confrontations better developed than before we entered them. We also gained a mutual respect for each other and I consider him a fast friend. We are polar opposites really, I have a belief that anything could be right or wrong and the way I write is soft on the ear, he also has, believe it or not, a belief that anything could be right or wrong but he says what he wants, when he wants, about anything he wants and he doesn’t care how it sounds.
There is a philosophy I have “Anything that has not stood to scrutiny is unreliable” and even I have been know to take an opposing stand on an issue, especially if it is one that has a unanimous following, because it can only make the issue stronger, or save us from a lie we did not see.

I liked Manimal, at first I hated him just like everyone else, but then once you get past your ego you realize that what he said actually made sense. Most people on this site are real supportive and for the most part will only say positive things even if it doesn’t help the situation (myself included) but Manimal always said what he thought whether people liked it or not. So I thought he was a refreshing persona on this site and am disappointed that he was banned, it seems to me that it wasn’t really out of necessity but rather out of offended feelings.

Manimal likes to think that he has life all figured out. He’s an intelligent and interesting dude. He has one of the most out of control egos of anyone I’ve ever come across. My question to him would be this: If you have figured out everything about living life perfectly, the way that you claim to, then why do you spend more than half of your waking day preaching your theology to strangers on the internet? Why are you afraid to reveal your appearance or your name? Manimal likes to think of himself as a god, but in reality he knows that he is flawed and imperfect. I think he is a pale, sad, chubby, frustrated man. Most men who spend as much time as him online are.
Martijn, where do we start drawing the line on which manipulators and which assholes get banned and which ones don’t? are there going to be rules or a code of conduct? I would like to know what kind of behavior got him banned over some of the other posters on the site? I liked the site better before he showed up and dominated it honestly, but i don’t really understand why you get to decide who stays and who goes.

@bobbylloydxd,

Martijn, where do we start drawing the line on which manipulators and which assholes get banned and which ones don’t?

It depends on a case to case basis. There are many variables to account for. So I really don’t know.

are there going to be rules or a code of conduct?

Unless this is really necessary, the answer is no. I don’t think it’s possible to regulate a free thinking forum with standard rules. And even rules aren’t objective, there is always a interpretation needed.

I would like to know what kind of behavior got him banned over some of the other posters on the site?

I explained this in an earlier post. If you would like to discuss other members, you can PM me. I hope it will suffice to say that it was more than just his ‘attitude’ or that I couldn’t understand him. It was the first ban I ever made on HE, and it was a personal struggle for me. I feel sad that I had to made the decision.

I liked the site better before he showed up and dominated it honestly, but i don’t really understand why you get to decide who stays and who goes.

Someone has to decide it, and since I am half owner of HE, share a vision for HE with Jordan and am responsible for the community side, it’s me. And as much as I want to keep my hands off the natural process, sometimes this just isn’t possible.

Thank you for asking these questions. Please don’t hesitate if you guys feel the need for more elaborations. I’d like to keep the whole ‘moderator process’ as transparant as possible.

Guys and Girls. Manimal is gone. Martijn isn’t some power driven mod who bans people for no reason. Like Martijn said, Manimal was warned before he got banned but continued his way. Yes he grew on a bunch of people, including myself but we all sound like a person who just got dumped and can’t let it go. We are supposed to all be about the moment and being in the now, let’s stop dwelling on what was and focus on what is. Let’s get back to intelligent discussions and blogs. Manimal, you will be missed..but we have to let go.

Manimal was a great example of how to talk in a way that makes people listen. It’s been how long since he’s gone, and you are still all discussing him? A post about him is in the sidebar?

He DID give discussions direction, which was great. We have it in ourselves to find the same direction and have meaningful discussions without him, though.

One thing he said that I try to remember was something like “for every hour you spend learning something spend two hours doing it”. So let’s have us some amazing discussions!

He had some good qualities and some bad qualities… just like anyone else. Why does anything else really need to be said?

I always thought he was abit of a paranoid narcissist with a few too many self help books stuffed up his arse, but the fights he got into over how he was “being targetted” by the moderators were really, really funny, considering the amount of time he spent preaching about ‘getting over your ego.’

@bobbylloydxd, I always wondered that myself. If he is so wise, why the hell was he on the internet 24/7?

I think @ martijn is power crazy and just drops the banhammer for no reason at all :(

jkz. he must’ve had good reason to do so

but on the other hand i liked manimal alot because even though he was brash, he spoke the truth and always had a different perspective or insight and was never afraid to voice his opinion

granted his method of communication was a bit wack but meh, you cant change the man

Give it a rest guys. Does it matter at this point? If you learned from him, talk about the things you did learn, not the messenger. Its EXACTLY like what happened with Jesus and his messages (although I dont enjoy comparing Manimal to Jesus, lawl) People disregarded the message, and fought over the messenger.
I didnt like the dude at first, then learned from him. Happens to a bunch a people I meet every single day of my life. I don’t rave about it everywhere tho. :P

@nikola, you are so wrong about Martijn when you say he is power crazy and just drops the banhammer for no reason at all. Since I do not know you, I do not know whether your post was sarcastic or not, but I assume it was not.

From what I know mANIMAL is the ONLY person ever banned on Highexistence. Please name me one other forum, with so many (active) members, where there is only max 1 person banned in the history of the forum. It will be really hard to find; I have experience with some forums, and I do not think they are as generous and understanding as here on Highexistence.

I am sure it was a well considered decisions to ban this member; definitely not an impulsive one.

When I found out manimal was banned from this sight I was disappointed. Like everyone said, he was a great leader on here. He may have been extremely dominant at times and ‘disrespectful,’ but in the end, the people who got offended by him allowed that to happen. They let him get to them, and yes, in some perverded way manimal seemed to love messing with people’s egos. Yes this may sound wrong and immoral, but I think he had a deeper purpose: To help these weak individuals learn the hard way (which, in many ways is the best way to learn) how to separate themselves from their ego and not get offended by words on a screen.

I know I was initially offended and repulsed by a lot of things manimal said on here. However, once I really looked into what he was saying, detatched myself from my ego, and challenged him, I realized that he had some incredibly, truly brilliant things to say. And even though things he said at first seemed very offensive, he had a deep message underneath his raw, brutal honesty with good intention: To help you ‘see the light’ and become a better, stronger person. to the people that got offended by him: If you just looked past your ego and his ego, and truly listened to what he had to say, you’d realize he was only trying to help you.

Many of the things he said on here have greatly changed my outlook on life. That’s a very big statement but it’s true. It’s very unfortunate people couldn’t just accept his opinion and what he had to say without getting emotionally involved/offended by it. This is why there are so few “manimals” in the world today; because so many people are weak, were never toughened up, and look on the surface and get offended by things true MEN say that actually have a deep underlying message with meaning that will only help them in the future.

Manimal made others feel lesser with his attitude, that’s a big deal. you can have whatever opinions you want on this site, but he spat his out as if they were the one truth, even if he himself said that he wasn’t always right he never admitted to be wrong or seemed to care much about the opinion of others.

+
Avatar of FindYourGreatness
FindYourGreatness (@jpete011)2 years, 5 months ago ago

Yes, manimal may have made others feel lesser with his words. But whose fault is that, really? Certainly not his fault.

He may have voiced his opinions like they were facts or the law, but they were still in reality nothing less than his opinions. It was how people perceived his messages, that was the real issue. And does one have to admit they’re wrong or care about other’s opinions? No.

He never made me feel lesser or something. Actually I told him twice that he sounds like a dictator. And the most important thing I learned in my life is “Don’t take advice from a bad example.” I think we understand each other perfectly. :)
