Gender Roles

2 years, 1 month ago

Gender roles is one of the most disgusting tendencies of the human psyche in terms of how it’s come to play into modern society. Evolution and the need for this human instinct aside, I could easily blame this as the foundation of most major social issues we face including many that are still left ignored.
Do you understand how common it is? That’s why the jock at school is a big a-hole, why the rape victim goes on trial and is ridiculed, why troops are so often hostile, why girls feel naked without make up, why guys feel too covered without armholes to their waist, and why gays die in the closet still. It is in everything.
And we as America are the pop culture kings of commercialization, we turn making people guilty about themselves into a multi-billion $ industry. Because everyone has self-esteem issues based off of these basic survival skills of men carry the heavy stuff and women carry life. And we turned it into this. Hate crimes and prejudice. As I said, disgusting.

@beardlike, I appreciate your post as I also believe that ‘gender roles’ be it biological or psychological are the foundation for many, if not all, of the resistance that has developed between people. It is deeply fabricated within the layers of our functioning that many fail to realize the negativity it elusively imposes on our lives; it is deemed as ‘human nature’. As if human nature has a code that must be adhered. We exploit this pattern of role playing to the maximum; as you said, quite disgusting and strange the intent is.

@beardlike, It really is as simple as there people who are best suited to each role should be granted that role, regardless of gender or any other form of superficiality such as race, class, sexuality, religion etc. Yes we have so many issues counter-productive to this sentiment. The role of the rest of us is to do the best we can at supporting those who are best suited to each role.

@beardlike, We live in a left brain dominate society. A masculine society so to speak. That’s where these issues arise. Gender roles in and of themselves aren’t destructive. It’s what sets women and men apart, because we are different in physical and physiological make-up. Men seek, women take in much like the penis and vagina. We fulfill our roles as opposite sexes very well. We are too grounded in left brain thinking which is where these problems arise. This is the problem, not gender roles. Cheers!

Actually I believe that gender roles stem from the patriarchal society that we live in, along with the underlying society model of domination. This is I believe to blame as the foundation of most major social issues we face. The problem is the authoritarian structure held together by hierarchies of domination and rigid rankings. The ranking of male over female as opposed to equal gender value is just one example. The fact that the nation is run this way to begin with is disgusting as you said, because everything from gender roles and its mulit-billion dollar industry to discrimination is socially constructed.

Typically, from basic human history, the man goes out and provides for the family as the woman rules the roost so to speak. I believe that even today, typically women are the head of the family, the internal, where as men are responsible externally, society. But egos often clash and both step on each others territory.
It is not wrong for a man to be head of the family or for a woman to be provider, but we have a hell of a lot of history conditioning us to those roles.

@beardlike this is what we’ve done to gender, race, social classes, etc. For some reason our society loves to point out the differences in people.

The gender roles we see today are not genetic/biologically innate. Men made it this way because we can, and because it was easy.
The world is changing though for a turn toward the feminine. Just what the doctor ordered.

It’s just about time that the genuine masculine takes its seat at the right hand instead of trying to dominate both.
This all will make for stronger males and females.

Will we save the planet though? I sort if doubt it. Science can show you why.
