I just came across this trailer: "http://www.frequency.com/video/god-bless-america-trailer/31578844/"
I was going to try to start a thoughtful discussion on what this says about American society today, but I can’t. I just can’t get the last segment to stop playing in my head so enjoy.
I just watched this movie last night and I really enjoyed it. It was certainly over the top violent, but that is just the humor of Bobcat Goldthwait.
This movie articulates the problems of this generation beautifully. When Frank says, “This is the generation of the ‘Oh no he didn’t just say that'”. He is 100% right. Today’s culture ridicules everyone and everything for the enjoyment of the insecure masses. People watch as reality shows depict overly exaggerated situations between the fakest people on earth, and then this dialogue shows up on the evening news. TMZ is a tv show with no shame.
The sad part about this movie is that it will most likely only be seen by an eclectic audience. I think everyone should watch this movie, just so they can see there is another side to the coin.
@greenthinker, I agree. It’s disappointing that since this movie will not reach many people precisely because it lacks the attention-grabbing, instant-gratification elements it critiques (besides, as you mentioned, the violence), when it gets a very important message across in an amusing way. One of my favorite quotes was when Frank said: “Why have a civilization if we are no longer interested in being civilized?” It applies to so much of what I see in popular culture.
Watched it last night.
The concept was great, I loved it. The acting, meh. The preachy-ness was pretty forward, the conversations were just so overly scripted to prove their point.
But overall, lol. Was good.
