It’s a tiny one but it does confuse me: profile pictures changing. It seems to happen after someone changes their profile picture (and I know, no shit, Sherlock), but it changes back and forth between the old and new image as you refresh the page or come back to the page or change pages in general.

I’m not great at explaining things, so tell me if you need that explained in depth…

It confuses me, to be honest.

It’s small and it won’t annoy me or anything. I can live with it, definitely.

I just find it harder for me to keep track of who is who because I’m very visual-oriented. Usernames I never remember unless I can place a picture with them, you know?

@kidd, its something to do with caches or something… so you could get rid of them by clearing your cache… or something :P

check out the FAQ page, i think i remember martijn explaining the whole cache deal there. i am a complete noob so this is all i know :)

I think that’s what I like about it most, it’s such a small window of visual representation that the random shuffling is kind of refreshing. I’m the same as you, visually oriented; but where I would only see “rainbow rose Kidd” I’m pleasantly surprised when it shuffles and I learn something new about the person like “brown eyed guitarist Kidd” or “shady Mercurial”.

It’s confusing but I’d be a fool to think I know someone only by their picture. After a while here you start to be able to pick out the regulars just by the way they type. But that small shuffling window into their avatar is nice too.

@vizznou, Okay, thank you, I’ll try that! :)

@mercurial The only avatar I’ve seen of yours has been a pure black image :P

Until now, speak of the devil it’s shuffled again. You’ll now jointly be known as “womanizing mercurial”

@mercurial, Ooo, back to shady; I swear it’s got a personality of it’s own. You don’t think it’s entertaining?

Womanizing–because it flipped to a very feminine photo of a gowned woman lying seductively on delicate furniture beneath a crystal chandelier?

Right, of course. Thought of as, not known as. Though I assume everyone’s avatar contains an unknown message about the user.

Phew. Ok, because this has been annoying. I had a failed pic upload where it showed half of the image and skewed it to where I looked like a monster. Hopefully clearing my cache changes it to one of the pretty pictures I uploaded. If not, I can assure you that I don’t look like that in real life O_o

@mercurial, Don’t doubt yourself, I think you have a valid point!

Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t trying to define you, only relate to you. We were on the topic of getting confused and visual-oriented identification. I was only trying to say that I handle the chaos by relating each person’s name to an attribute of their avatar. I realize shady or womanized doesn’t reflect the actual nature of the user, nor would I choose those words to describe a person. It’s just easier for my mind to ID someone with a handful of images, and easier to describe the example with short catchy words.

Yes it happens. It basically has everything to do with your browser’s connection to the website. It has, for some reason, attributed caches to certain pages differently, and so it has stored them both and they just fight for attention. You MIGHT be able to resolve this with a cache wipe, but it probably won’t fix it completely. I’d assume that there’s a loose bit of code that needs to be fixed before that would actually stay permanently fixed.
