Oh man, I could go off on this topic. Most of my main suggestions have already been said, but I haven’t seen Common Market posted yet. They have a really chill sound, and use a lot of piano and shit. A lot of good hip hop artists coming out of Seattle (Blue Scholars, Macklemore, Common Market, etc). “Tobacco Road” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1MUpZAWuFI http://rapgenius.com/Common-market-tobacco-road-lyrics “Winter Takes All” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NVZLHuUU1o http://rapgenius.com/Common-market-winter-takes-all-lyrics “Connect For” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY3xVNSwJME |

You guys know the album Illmatic? Elzhi, a rapper, remade it and turned into “Elmatic”. It’s fantastic. I really can’t stand Atmosphere. I don’t like white rappers. It’s something about their voice. The only ones that are nice are Macklemore and Hoodie Allen. |

I’m pretty shocked nobody has mentioned Lupe Fiasco yet. Food & Liquor + The Cool = two of the best alternative hip hop albums you’ll ever hear. Recently he has been a bit devoid of passion, but when he came onto the scene he was so fricking dope. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiNcuqxzucY – this is Put You On Game, from his 2nd album, The Cool. He is rapping from the perspective of the devil looking at humanity. Deep. If you like this then go and grab the two albums I mentioned up there. |

Another artist I’m fond of is Akala – he’s a UK conscious rapper, again, he is lyrically magnificent and sending out good messages. There are two tracks I would recommend of his: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r01LUHG5Zo <-Find No Enemy. Probably my favourite hip hop track of all time. If youre browsing High Existence, then you NEED to hear this. |
