It’s rough to find legitimately good acts these days, so post your favorites, and please no Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa or any of that shit.

P.O.S. – Optimist
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OpHJUJIrpU
This song is almost impossible to be angry listening to. Smooth and well thought out lyrics.

Sage Francis – Slow down Gandhi
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PITNYQtZWFE
Politically charged, easy to understand but motivating nonetheless, anti-war hip-hop at its best.

Death Grips – Guillotine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Orlbo9WkZ2E
Now what can I possibly say about death grips… this is REALLY hard to get into but completely worth it. If I had to analogize it, I’d probably call this stuff audible PCP. A little bit frightening, a lot rough around the edges, but god damn it knocks you the fuck over and out, and you’ll find yourself saying "Itgoesitgoesitgoesitgoesitgoes" to yourself for some undecipherable reason. Give it a chance and listen past the (initially) rough vocals and you’ll get one of the most original and insightful hip-hop acts to come about in a long fucking time. I can’t say enough about Death Grips. This shit is raw.

Oh man, I could go off on this topic. Most of my main suggestions have already been said, but I haven’t seen Common Market posted yet. They have a really chill sound, and use a lot of piano and shit. A lot of good hip hop artists coming out of Seattle (Blue Scholars, Macklemore, Common Market, etc).
Also, Aesop Rock probably has the best lyrics I have ever heard from any musician, if that’s what you’re looking for.
Here’s a few of my favorite CM songs:

“Tobacco Road” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1MUpZAWuFI

“Winter Takes All” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NVZLHuUU1o

“Connect For” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY3xVNSwJME

Thanks so much everyone for all these awesome recommendations!
P.O.S. Holy cow. Just blown my mind.
As for my contribution, I can definitely recommend Atmosphere. Specifically the album ‘When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold’.

You guys know the album Illmatic? Elzhi, a rapper, remade it and turned into “Elmatic”. It’s fantastic.

I really can’t stand Atmosphere. I don’t like white rappers. It’s something about their voice. The only ones that are nice are Macklemore and Hoodie Allen.

I’m pretty shocked nobody has mentioned Lupe Fiasco yet. Food & Liquor + The Cool = two of the best alternative hip hop albums you’ll ever hear. Recently he has been a bit devoid of passion, but when he came onto the scene he was so fricking dope.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiNcuqxzucY – this is Put You On Game, from his 2nd album, The Cool. He is rapping from the perspective of the devil looking at humanity. Deep. If you like this then go and grab the two albums I mentioned up there.

Another artist I’m fond of is Akala – he’s a UK conscious rapper, again, he is lyrically magnificent and sending out good messages.

There are two tracks I would recommend of his:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEOKgjoxoto <- Fire in the Booth pt 1 – there is a radio show in england where mcs come and basically freestyle over a beat. This is Akala's attempt and it's fuckin jaw dropping.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r01LUHG5Zo <-Find No Enemy. Probably my favourite hip hop track of all time. If youre browsing High Existence, then you NEED to hear this.
