How long does this world have until we have nuclear war?

2 years, 4 months ago

Here is a video of how to buy nuclear arms on the black market: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0c4f4NJSB_4&feature=g-high-rec

I don’t know if I should be fascinated or terrified, so to find a middle ground, I am both.

This isn’t even about America anymore. In fact, I am more concerned over the Israel and Palestine conflict. IMO we have discovered the catalyst which will make or break this whole planet. Every country has its adversaries. Soon nuclear arms will be the next ak-47s.

Are the events already set in motion for our demise? Many people like to believe humans will always fight each other, that its in our “nature”.

What do you think?

I really hope we have enough time to change our ways.

Well there are scientist think that intelligent life cant last long periods of time because they eventually wipe themselves out. This is an idea i can get behind, based on what has happen throughout history. For some reason humans can’t grasp the fact that we are a race of the same creatures on a floating ball in space. Humans seem to want to think that the color of our skin, which is evolutionary (correct me if im wrong), or who they believe rules over us is reason to put someone down. This in fact doesn’t mean a god damn thing in reality. If we could just realize that fighting is pointless we could start moving forward as a species

There is a awesome quote i stumbled on one time, that said something about humans fighting over a tiny piece of land on a tiny blue ball orbiting around a mediocre star, on the side of a regular galaxy off on the side of the entire universe. Whats the point?

It didn’t exactly go like that but it was something to that affect. If someone knows the real quote i waould love to know it. I never saved it and can’t find it anywhere.

@greenthinker, I believe humans will always fight each other, but nuclear warfare is pretty fucked up. If it is going to happen it will probably be in the middle east, if Israel is involved america will probably side with them and america would probably have a huge influence in how the middle east develops. I personally think we will see a third world war, or something of that scale in our lifetime. Also just because it doesn’t look like America, I wouldn’t rule them out completely, the American government likes to stick its nose in other people’s business. There is also a strong chance Iran has nuke’s and if you are American (generally speaking) please, please, please do not support an American-Iranian war, because it is quite likely ( especially if you get another bloodthirsty republican into the oval office). And not all countries have adversaries, Ireland doesn’t….anymore :D

It’s fucked the idea in itself that we have the power to destroy our self. It’s almost like we’re being tested

Who knows. Watch this video though, there have already been over 2,000 nuclear explosions in the world. http://youtu.be/dXxPRHkyAvY

@nowscreamlouder, sounds like a Carl Sagan quote.

Are you possibly thinking of pale blue dot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wupToqz1e2g)?

Firstly there is not enough nuclear weapons to make a lot of surface damage to the earth. All the bombs in the world will only take out a relatively small area of land. and second ever since Hiroshima, no nuclear bombs have ever been dropped. I think we’re a little wiser, no organism would ever blow up an entire city like that again.
Time to evolve. Human beings as they are right now are going extinct and will be replaced by a more evolved being.

Not so sure it will happen.

@antlob, Yes but not enough to destroy the planet, not enough to destroy I think even 1% of human population. The planet is very large.

It could easily be prevented if the large, powerful nations stay armed, and the Middle East shuts the hell up already.

@warriors41, um, that’s grossly incorrect information.

The entire human population could be destroyed many many times over. The number of nuclear weapons is absolutely ridiculous (and the sad part is, the current total is actually significantly smaller than what it was during the height of the cold war… and its still an obscene obscene amount).

In fact, I’d say that depending on weather patterns, the majority of the worlds population could be destroyed surprisingly efficiently with well placed bombings.

I don’t know where you got your “facts” from, but they are incorrect, plain and simple.

I worry more about chemical and biological warfare. Population control, etc.

@greenthinker, We have changed our ways, any legitimate nation would not use nuclear weapons, they are only a deterant. It is nations run by crazy people that would do it. The thing is that active nuclear reactors and warheads are detectable, including the grade, from space. This is how we know what level of development Iran is at, and this is why no terrorist cell has been able to truck a warhead into a major population and detonate.
We know where every active warhead is, we just don’t know where the inactive ones are but it would take a lot of noticable resources to reactivate them and if they are they would become detectable.
I doubt an all out nuclear war would ever happen, the thing is that nations like China and Russia, which would be the most likely to be involved because simply they have the weapons to engage an all out, these would have nothing to gain from it besides self defence. These nations have much more to gain by a standard war that would leave the land free of toxicity so the land they actually gain is of use to them. A radioactive land is predominantly useless to everyone.

@alljuicedup, sorry, I guess I am wrong. I remember learning that if all the bombs went off it would only cover about 1% of the total area of the earth. You mentioned weather patterns, which I guess would also be a contributing factor I didn’t consider. However I still think it isn’t possible to “blow up” the planet like in a cartoon. I also still think that we won’t do it, we know the consequence and it’s just not in our nature to go through with this kind of self destruction, but I could be wrong.

The true purpose of nuclear missiles, as I remember hearing from Terence Mckenna, is to prevent a asteroid impact. I think that’s a better solution, instead of wasting it on destroying each other.

@alljuicedup, See i thought it would be Sagan quote as well. It’s definitely not in pale blue dot. I was a picture with the quote
