just sit down, relax and try to stop your mind completely from thinking. :)

I will reiterate the point to learn the basics first. A class can be very helpful. Also, the set and setting play a major role, just don’t get too cozy and fall asleep! I personally enjoyed meditating with a group, it seems to focus the energy better.
I have studied and practiced meditation for over three years now, and I have a concern. While my ability to relax has significantly increased to the point I can loose sensation of feeling my body in minutes, I cannot see or hear anything other than in that moment. I used to be able to do guided imagery and I would zone out completely hearing nothing and being able to see whatever I wished clearly (this was two years ago). Now (I just started meditating again this past summer), I can no longer do this visualization or tuning noise out. I’ve noticed that at times my eyes actually hurt from trying to visualize. Any suggestions or answers to what may be causing this loss of detuning and visualization?
I have also occasionally been trying to channel when I reach my meditative state of relaxation to no success. When I choose to completely stop trying/thinking I have seen a white light appear two times in front of me filling my body and with it a sense of happiness and energy. Any comments or suggestions for channeling and/or the light?
