I want participants for an Astral Projection Expt.
Edit: An updated blog post with everything you need to know. Do not read the “Why” if you plan to participate, it will spoil it.
1) Being comfortable with being very high on mary jane is used, so if that isn’t an option, you must be willing to deprive yourself of sleep to a point of being very tired (maybe 3-4 hours post bedtime).
2) You need to, at some level, enjoy electronic music, with a strong bass. This there is little exception and if this is altered its no longer my experiment, but would still be interesting.
What you’re going to do:
•Smoke a great deal of weed to a point you consider to be very high.
•Get relaxed in bed, shut off all the lights, preferably at night so there is little light.
•Have an MP3 player handy with some quality headphones.
•Play songs in shuffle from these two albums:
Infected mushroom – Converting Vegetarians
Infected mushroom – Viscious Delicious
It MUST be these two albums. It is better if you haven’t heard them EVER before.
When you are comfortable and relaxed, turn on the music, shut your eyes, and zone out to only the music.
Turn it to a comfortable level, not too loud, but so you can hear every beat and sound easily. As the song progresses, slowly increase the volume! The music should reach a point where it is the only possible thing to focus on – not painfully loud, but loud beyond anything else.
My hypothesis; You WILL astral project. You will find yourself in space, or some void where your body is stretching and contorting and dancing with incredibleness.
Notes: I want these albums first because I need to understand something of these.
I do not doubt that other music can easily induce the same effects, but I want to make sure of something with these.
If anyone is up for this challenge, please post here. I need participants!
I’ve done it a hundred times and its an absolutely fantastic unbelievable experience for me.

@ijesuschrist I will tell my experience, i was high as hell , i put my bose earphones and put reproduce to the album , i lie down in the bed , i experience a lot of different strange feelings , and I had a lot of involuntary movements like seizures , i started to get relaxed and i never fall sleep , i think i wasnt relaxed enought because of my earphones (theyre big) so i cant get comfi in the bed y´know ,,, i was very excited with this experiment i think I´ll give it other chance , but the experience i had was cool too
@ijesuschrist, Yes, I hear you. I don’t listen to Infected Mushroom unless I’m super high, I don’t know why. So I guess doing this experience in the nature is not a good idea, but I’m gonna do it anyway :p. Will keep you updated about the “aftermath” :).
@lunaticbum, Nothing will ever replace the first experience of each song, heh :)
I got my room as dark as possible, you want no external stimuli at all – you can only hear the song and see nothing, and be comfortable otherwise. You want your brain to be completely encapsulated by the sound.
@ijesuschrist, It sounds to be a pleasant experience. I don’t remember seeing any scenery or some visuals. Maybe I was just too focused on my body. Did you close your eyes or let them opened? I was in my room and I closed my eyes. But I was thinking about doing it in the woods, I can let them open and see the nature.
Thanks for the music, do you think if you listen to the same songs all over again the effect would be different?
@lunaticbum, For some reason I’ve heard a lot of people get fear from this. My girlfriend couldn’t even handle a whole song before her heart started beating out of her chest.
For me its completely different. Its like a canvas begins being painted in my head as the music starts, and the movements of my body are the paint brush. By the peak of the song, I am going absolutely chaotic, my astral body image is vibrating and ricocheting across the galaxy, and the scenery is getting incredibly surreal. But never have I feared during it, its usually quite awe-inspiring. At one point I was too filled with awe to feel anything. It was like my brain literally stopped functioning.
Kwoon – I lived on the moon (Takes some patience) but easy going
Bluetech – ‘Elementary Particles’ & ‘Prima Materia’ – delete ‘Prayers for rain’ and ‘Triangle’ as they are remixes with voice-overs. (Very easy going, but still good)
Shpongle – Any album
Devin Townsend – The Hummer (VERY Meditative, pull through the ending)
Others I would like to try myself are
Erothyme – Coincidentia Oppositorum AND/OR Outer Space Underground
Overall there is no other music I have come across that can do what infected mushroom does. Their ability to create trance states that smoothly escalate and progress is unmatched.
1500 mics the band could be a possibility but they just don’t compare to infected mushroom in my opinion.
@ijesuschrist, Yeah, I enjoyed it, a lot, until the fear interfered.
And since I’m going to try again I’ll download some Shpongle, maybe the other albums of Infected Mushroom and some of other songs mentioned in this thread. Do you have any other suggestion for the music?
Gotta move to your part 2 ;)
@ijesuschrist, OK I tried it last night and it was the craziest experience I’ve had so far with weed. I read this post last week and I just found the perfect moment yesterday. I was very tired and only had 3 hours of sleep (so I thought this is it.).
Sleep deprivation: checked. Music: checked. Super bass earphones: checked. Marijuana: checked. To tell you the truth it was the highest amount of marijuana I’ve ever consumed, I’ve never been THAT high. I couldn’t stop thinking about the astral projection so I tried to put myself in a conducive position to increase the possibility of having an AP. But in the same time, I tried not to have a high expectation so I could just receive the experience as it is. Oh, and I’ve never listened or heard about Infected Mushroom before.
As for the experience, I don’t know if it was an AP.
I was very comfortable and started well, I gradually increased the volume as you said. When the moment was at its best, I listened to the music as if I was hearing voices. Then I started to feel numb and I started to lose it, at one point I didn’t feel my body at all, the music, the beat, the voices, all the element of the music resonated through my existence. Sometimes at the point where the music became aggressive, I had an impression of being ripped off, sometimes being tickled, sometimes I felt the wave and felt that I was the wave itself (shit Infected Mushroom is genius!!). But I still could feel my body at some points as well, when the music started to slow down for example. Then, in the middle of high sensation, I had an impression of being lifted up… (Or maybe it was just the numbness ?). At a second I felt my hands hanging in the air but as soon as I realized it they started to sort of… Disappear. Slowly from the tip of my fingers, as if I slowly disappeared into thin air and being united with it. As if I became the air itself. That was when I started to have a little bit of panic attack, when the sensation started reaching my back slowly and then spread through my legs and feet, I thought I was going to die. I couldn’t stop thinking “Am I gonna die? Am I gonna die? Am I dying?”. I was so afraid and panic and that was when I tried really hard to get back into reality no matter what and it was a mistake I guess. I shouldn’t have to try to get a grip or to hold onto something. I should have just… Let go. I couldn’t stop thinking and debating in my head and trying to understand what was going on and in the same time I tried to just feel it and just… Hover in the moment. But since the music and the sensation was quite powerful not to let me over thinking, I still enjoyed it for a little longer, the resonance of the music in my body until I overslept (maybe because of the tiredness and the music got slow down too) but the headphones were still hanging on my ears, sometimes the aggressive parts of the music shocked me and woke me up times to times. But all in all, it was a very interesting experience and thank you @ijesuschrist for this and I will definitely try this again with a better attitude.
@ijesuschrist, Im going to try this tonight …never listen to infected mushroom and i got some oil and have done a few astral projections in the past 6 months since I’ve started. can’t wait. ill post result either late tonight EST or tmrw morning
I am definite trying this!! Right now I’m in vacation with my dad and sister in Europe. I get back on Saturday night but I don’t have any bud at home so I’ll do it Sunday night. I’ll be tired because of the 6 hour time gap and I’ll get incredibly high. It will be perfect timing for it. I’m excited to do this.. Also I love electronic music.
@filipek, then you don’t get to participate :)
I don’t have any other albums I know of that I would be curious to test this on… I have a few songs, but there is nothing as progressive in my library as infected mushroom.
@edwardbernays, someone had the figure appear before, yes. It usually is called sleep paralysis, and is really common, but usually AFTER you fall asleep and get up again does it occur, so very interesting you say this. Ok a few more responses and I want to unveil portion 2 of the experiment, arguably the more important part :O
@blankey, for me, in the strictest sense, no.
I forget I’m in my body – and I get stretched and contorted to various ends of the galaxy. My body is humming to the music. At time’s I’ve kind of snapped out of it and realized I’m like horizontally jumping in my bed. It gets pretty nuts, you have to be pretty god damn high though to get there, or pretty tired, or both.
Any more and I will give away some things.
