I want participants for an Astral Projection Expt.
Edit: An updated blog post with everything you need to know. Do not read the “Why” if you plan to participate, it will spoil it.
1) Being comfortable with being very high on mary jane is used, so if that isn’t an option, you must be willing to deprive yourself of sleep to a point of being very tired (maybe 3-4 hours post bedtime).
2) You need to, at some level, enjoy electronic music, with a strong bass. This there is little exception and if this is altered its no longer my experiment, but would still be interesting.
What you’re going to do:
•Smoke a great deal of weed to a point you consider to be very high.
•Get relaxed in bed, shut off all the lights, preferably at night so there is little light.
•Have an MP3 player handy with some quality headphones.
•Play songs in shuffle from these two albums:
Infected mushroom – Converting Vegetarians
Infected mushroom – Viscious Delicious
It MUST be these two albums. It is better if you haven’t heard them EVER before.
When you are comfortable and relaxed, turn on the music, shut your eyes, and zone out to only the music.
Turn it to a comfortable level, not too loud, but so you can hear every beat and sound easily. As the song progresses, slowly increase the volume! The music should reach a point where it is the only possible thing to focus on – not painfully loud, but loud beyond anything else.
My hypothesis; You WILL astral project. You will find yourself in space, or some void where your body is stretching and contorting and dancing with incredibleness.
Notes: I want these albums first because I need to understand something of these.
I do not doubt that other music can easily induce the same effects, but I want to make sure of something with these.
If anyone is up for this challenge, please post here. I need participants!
I’ve done it a hundred times and its an absolutely fantastic unbelievable experience for me.

Was gonna try last night. Would have been perfect cause i only had 5 hrs of sleep combined in the last 48 hrs. I came home from the pub pretty drunk, and wanted to smoke enough so that I could do the experiment in the best state of mind, but I blacked out walking to my bed so I decided it wasn’t the best of ideas for that night. Tomorrow night I will give it another try (with a little more sleep and 0 alcohol in me).
@ijesuschrist, I couldn’t get into it at all. I did have an interesting experience the other night. I was in that sort of state as if you were day dreaming, but it happens to me just before I fall asleep. It’s like a state in between consciousness and unconsciousness. I sometimes slip into this state if I’m extremely tired, but haven’t quite learned to manipulate it completely. It may possibly be the beginning of lucid dreaming, I’m unsure. I had this ‘dream’ that I was in line waiting for this boy I felt strongly for. I was to order food for the two of us and wasn’t exactly sure what to order. There was a guy infront of me, the lady at the register insisted I cut infront of him that he didn’t know what he wanted. Then I reassured her I was just as unsure myself as to what I wished to order. She was recommending things to me and all the sudden I felt this onset of being stoned, but I hadn’t smoked. Then everything became hazy and I stumbled backwards into the wall and I faded out of consciousness with everyone rushing around me. I feel like it signified how I feel my life is out of control. The funny part is that I had another mini ‘dream’ that my mother called and told me she couldn’t afford anything anymore and we were going to have to give up the more luxury things. I tried to act as if I wasn’t happy, but inside I just felt this feeling of content wash over me. It was just weird how vivid these ‘dreams’ were. Sorry, if this is too off subject, but I thought you might find it interesting.
Sounds good. Will do. Perhaps I shall try this again, after tonight, with In Rainbows by Radiohead, their music is subtle yet profound. Update you tomorrow, would the experiment be too variable if I were to smoke damiana with the sleep depervation for the next trial?
@ijesuschrist, Actually, there was another thing that stood out. I began to see nondescript objects in my vision, which seemed to be coming toward me (or vice versa). It looked like the animation in this video beginning at 8:30 – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c64Aia4XE1Y
However, I wasn’t able to stay fully awake and aware for more than three songs. It was still interestingly unique, though.
I am definite trying this!! Right now I’m in vacation with my dad and sister in Europe. I get back on Saturday night but I don’t have any bud at home so I’ll do it Sunday night. I’ll be tired because of the 6 hour time gap and I’ll get incredibly high. It will be perfect timing for it. I’m excited to do this.. Also I love electronic music.
@filipek, then you don’t get to participate :)
I don’t have any other albums I know of that I would be curious to test this on… I have a few songs, but there is nothing as progressive in my library as infected mushroom.
@edwardbernays, someone had the figure appear before, yes. It usually is called sleep paralysis, and is really common, but usually AFTER you fall asleep and get up again does it occur, so very interesting you say this. Ok a few more responses and I want to unveil portion 2 of the experiment, arguably the more important part :O
@blankey, for me, in the strictest sense, no.
I forget I’m in my body – and I get stretched and contorted to various ends of the galaxy. My body is humming to the music. At time’s I’ve kind of snapped out of it and realized I’m like horizontally jumping in my bed. It gets pretty nuts, you have to be pretty god damn high though to get there, or pretty tired, or both.
Any more and I will give away some things.
@omallen, no, are you planning on damiana without marijuana?
IF its just damiana for sleep deprivation its fine, but I would expect it to be even less intense than just straight sleep deprivation, due to its relaxing feel – it may conflict with the music :P
OK, so i am a huge fan of infected mushroom, was high to the point that i kept forgetting there was a bowl in my hand, and listened to it on my ipod through some of those big DJ headphones. i did not get “astral projections” per say but i was getting intense body highs, , and could feel whatever part of my body i directed my attention towards very strongly. i started thinking a whole lot of about being at a techno show and was imagining a club that was playing infected mushroom. there were dancers with LED lights attached to their naked bodies lighting up on beat, and tons of people jumping around dancing as well with complete abandon. it made me miss doing that because i don’t so much anymore. i thought laying on the back of my head wearing these headphones was pretty fucking uncomfortable after awhile. i attempted to find my ipod headphones, failed, and passed out extremely early for me. with no sleeping pills which i usually need to take. all cool stuff, didn’t astrally project but it certainly wasn’t my average night.
I tried it after smoking about 5 hits off a bong and 5 hits from a pipe. Needless to say I was real high.
So I tried to get comfortable, I started listening to both albums. However at first all I wanted to do was move to the music. But after some what concentrating on the music I felt a weird kind of head sensation, not quite sure how to explain it. And I had a hard time concentrating on specifically the music, my mind kept on wandering toward odd subjects and memories.
I think I might have been a little bit too high for it.
I’ll try it again soon with a smaller amount of smoking.
