Me and a few of my friends are talking about starting a pop-punk band late this month. We have the idea that we want it to be based around nature, thinking for yourself, individuality, and spirituality. These topics will be addressed in our lyrics in hopes to enlighten people and open eyes. I was wondering if you chaps and cheppetes could help me in choosing a suitable name. We want it to be rather simple, nothing too ‘hip’ with no more than 4 words
Isn’t pop punk just about naming yourself after an older bands song or some lyrics?
NCIS. That way you’ll get mad publicity because people will find you when looking for the tv show and it’s short for Nature, Conscience, Individuality and Spirituality :)
@staylucky, I don’t know if that was legitimate haha. I haven’t heard of any pop punk bands bumming their names from other music, not to say that none have ever done it, I’d have to backtrack through lyrics to find if anything matches a band name, but I don’t think that’s the goal.
@theskafish, Well our vocalist is the drummer for a new local hardcore band, the bass player plays bass for the same other band and is also in another more nasty sounding fast hardcore band called Machinist! they’re releasing their new ep friday (btw). We’ve all been friends for a while and the guitar player is some dude that just moved in town who has been in a few bands. We’re in the brainstorming process right now, and as soon as Machinist! is done touring we’ll be able to get together and conduct some tunes.
@brandonphillips, Ah awesome man. I don’t listen to lions lions but the others are some of my favorites. I wish Soupy from TWY would write about different stuff on the new album, though.
How about With The Punches? They’re my favorite and in my opinion the greatest pop pop band ever. I recently saw them with such gold in long island.
Also, how bout Misser, Young English, Pentimento and Transit?!
@brandonphillips, Of course. What kinda hardcore we talking though? H2o, Have Heart, Defeater, Cruel Hand (please tell me you know cruel hand!), No Warning to name a few of my all time favorites. Asking Alexandria…that shit shouldn’t be defined as hardcore.
Over the past few months I’ve seen Alexisonfire, Defeater, Touche Amore, Make Do & Mend and Blacklisted. Also met the dudes from Defeater, super nice guys.
Also, Man Overboard are rad when you want something light and fun. Same goes for Set Your Goals :)
P.S Listen to Trap Them or GTFO.
