Learning what not to post on HE
Telling people what is acceptable to post and what isn’t, isn’t what this community is about.. actually its the kind of behavior I’d imagine this website opposes strongly. (shame on you!) On these forums there are many categories and this topic fits into at least 2 of them.
You all did Nathan wrong and in my opinion shamed yourselves and this website you hold so dear. If you don’t want to engage in these type of discussions here then don’t… its simple.

@Manimal You should read some Peter Sloterdijk, he argues the sport phenomenon is just the de-spiritualisation of asceticism.Which in the long run is a good thing.
If you’re criticism is directed toward identifying yourself with a sport club (directed at profit and consumption), instead of sport in itself I kinda agree.
There are some moderators but they are flying under the radar. Except for those, there is Jordan and me.
@Martijn I got nothing against sports, but I don’t see how a thread about which club you support is relevant to the site in any way at all. I’d go as far as to say that’s the worst kind of groupthink that exists, identifying with something you’re not part of, for no reason at all.
And let’s face it, the football of today isn’t a sport at all. It’s just a way to advertise, and a way to distract people. The people who compete don’t do it for the sport, they do it for the money. And a whole lot of other shit.
I do watch football occasionally, and Liverpool is my favourite team, but this thread is just so meaningless and irrelevant. How is anyone gonna get anything positive or useful out of a thread about whether or not you support some football team? How could it make anyone wiser or happier or teach them something new?
I like to think I’m open-minded but I can’t see two sides to this one. there are other forums on the web (http://bit.ly/yfWRbo) where lots of people passionately discuss football. I am a baseball fan and so I use baseball forums to discuss that sport. I wouldn’t bring up The Nature of Reality at baseball think factory anymore than I’d start a thread here about whether or not Mark Teixiera can start sac bunting to beat the shift. it’s not trolling, but I’d call it pollution.
I’m with Manimal in asking for just a bit of discretion in terms of the topics discussed here. and don’t even get me started on “our form”.
@Nathan Calm down jesus ha. If you’re not even gonna read the replies through and understand them, don’t start reading them at all.
It’s got nothing to do with us not liking sports, it’s about the complete lack of quality and purpose of this thread.
@Manimal If you don’t like our replies, then why are you answering to them and why do you keep reading them? Hypocrisy!
And if you would have actually read my earlier reply you wouldn’t have asked if I cheer for Liverpool, because already said I do.
I think there should be a little more quality control, because the way you see which topics are active is through that little sidebar on the right. If one of the spots is getting taken up with sports bs-ing, which you can do at a lot of other places on the internet, then that’s one fewer slot that could lead me to something interesting and mind-expanding.
To be fair, I do think that bs-ing about sports is one of the great social lubricants of our species.
I used to be a fan of Liverpool but that was… a loooooooong time ago. I was a fan of Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler. That was when I still played football on the street… Now I’m a PC addict and a boring nerd who talks too god damn much and listens to The Beatles.
It’s like someone stole your teddy bear. That’s why there are different categories on this site. I’m just interested in everything… which, unbelievably, is a great social skill. :D Maybe no one here watched the tennis finals a couple of days ago. And maybe no one cares about setting world records on olympic games. Interests? Goddamn people are talking about aliens and penises but when someone talks about sports you freak out? I’m gonna take a break and laugh myself to death now.
@Sasho you’re looking at this way too black and white. Manimal and I *like sports*. A discussion about how incredibly inspiring the six-hour nadal-djokovic final was (not to mention the murray-djoker semi, which was even better tennis and storyline) would be more fitting here than just “go ManU!” or whatever spawned this thread.
I disagree that HE’s purpose is to discuss everything under the sun. In fact I would hope that people here would object if I just starting posting thread after thread – “what are your favorite shoes?” “Let’s talk about cars?” “what movies are da bomb?” “Is 4G fast enuff 4u?” “Favorite recipes” “Who’s the hottest actor/actress.?”
@anon Re: content. My assumption has always been that Jordan’s blog and mission sets the tone for the site. “Question anything & everything that is considered ‘normal’”.
