Losing one's senses
So. Firstly, let me tell you a little something about me. I don’t drink or smoke and I have never tried it even once. I have tasted alcohol accidentally but never drank it :D. Firstly, it started off as a relgious reason to not drink. I would never smoke though. But then I turned into an agnostic. So religion is not the reason why I don’t drink. Then, there was this incident where my dad drank and came home and slept. He wasn’t drunk though. He just had a light drink. I come from an orthodox Hindu family where my mom is the only one who is deeply religious and she knew my dad drinks but this time she cried for some reason the day after my dad drank. She cried and she made me promise that I wouldn’t drink. But now I realize I do so many things my mother wouldn’t be proud of. So its not about my mother either. She isn’t the reason I don’t drink either.
What I think its about is me not being totally comfortable with losing track of my awareness that is, being unaware of my senses. I have never really lost my senses or ever had an experience where my senses were numbed. Now, my question is……Do you become unaware of your senses when you drink? I know a lot of people don’t like the taste of alcohol but they like the effect of it. What is so good about the feeling of losing yourself? Can losing your senses actually contribute to your success?
Basically, whenever we sleep we lose our senses. I have done a lot of heavy drinking in my time but I think the main reason people don’t remember the night before is because they don’t want to, they know they did something stupid. But I am not qite affected the same way, apparently, as others. I get drunk once every 2 or 3 months, but I drink almost every weekend. I drink socially at the club to relax after the week but don’t really get drunk, I get drunk only at home and watch wacky movies for shits and giggles.
Some people don’t get drunk when they drink. Just because they want and need to feel present to experience their contacts. It’s all a matter of self-control. Drinking more than just relieving stress is simply abusing and causes more stress, especially to one’s organism. Quite simple. It’s pretty cool if you are drinking with people who don’t yell and act like they’re immortal, and don’t drink for the sake of getting wasted. It’s more enjoyable and comfortable.
What if you didn’t do anything stupid though? I know people who get drunk for no reason.
Possibly, they could be trying to numb a pain, but they could also just be people who never leave their comfort zone and alcohol loosens inhibitions. They may simply be using it as a means to cut loose from the mental chains that bind them day to day.
