I am all for this new way that people are thinking lately. About how this whole monetary system isn’t working and there needs to be a better way to survive to live. There is a whole movement of these fresh thinkers and believers and it got me thinking; why can’t we start a new “religion”? Instead of worshiping an old book and a spirit that isn’t here and can’t help us, why not start a new “religion” that worships life and humanity? With philosophies on living as one, living for each other, no hate, no greed, sustainability etc etc. The Brethrins have their own way of living. The Muslims have their own way of living. Why can’t we? A definition of religion is “a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons”. It doesn’t say that a god MUST be believed in. But a divine greatness…. How about nature??
Google discordianism. You’ve already started a religion, and you’re the pope. As a matter of fact, every creature on this planet is a pope of their own branch of discordianism, whether or not they’ve awakened to this fact.
Then read a Robert Anton Wilson book (preferably the collaborative “novel” with Robert Shea) and understand how the underground joke religion ties together.
@gina, Religions only separate us humans more, only humanism will save us

@gina, Unitarians? Though it’s usually an older demographic. But here’s their tagline “We are a community of diverse beliefs and shared values. In fellowship with one another, we seek spiritual growth, social justice, and environmental sustainability through worship, ethical action, education and artistic expression.”
But ultimately, what would you like to gain from starting this new religion? Is it a fulfilled sense of community? A shared purpose or belief system? A wider market to reach? I’m intrigued.
I can NEVER know with absolute certainty but i absolutely need to find out -ism also called compulsivecurio-ism in combination with wise-ism
@gina, Lets do it! This is kind of on my bucket list actually. There are a lot of things I personally believe that aren’t common to the popular way of thinking that I would love to get more people to understand. I don’t know if I would want to call it a religion as religions just cause separation and as others on here have said there are plenty religions that encompass these beliefs. But I would love to just be able to expose more people to a better, more loving way of thinking.
I’m taking a class called spiritual ecology right now and it’s fascinating as I too, had the same idea as you. I actually had a freak out and revelation and thought I had to go preach the word that we HAVE to live in harmony with nature, but turns out there is a LOT being pursued on the subject. Sustainable communities, nature activists, Zeitgeist movement, But I do think there has to be a big widespread movement to get back to nature. I really hope something starts up – is it the new 60′s? Instead of world war between countries it’s people protecting our earth vs. those wanting to exploit it and materialism? I’m on board. In a love and peace way of course.
@gina, Its called Buddhism my dear.
Also there’s so many belief systems out there, you should look them up. If you like togetherness and nature look into Wicca, I was pagan for a bit, but even that system is far to rule orientated and full of rituals lol
Also, It doesn’t have to ‘be a religion’ for you to believe it. :)
Honestly, you know what it would take to fix this world? For one generation- lets all team up together and raise the best generation of kids this world has ever seen. Problem will fix itself by the time they are dead.
