I know that the best way if not the only way to overcome fear is to face the fear. But what if your fear is of your own creation? The things that are out there that aren’t actually there. I create these things to fear in my own mind even though I know they aren’t there. How do I stop this self defeating view of the unknown that I unnecessarily create in my own mind?

@biga69, I get scared of my imagination all the time. I create monsters and ghouls and things in my head (never logical things, like getting mugged in the park, always supernatural things….), and scare myself. You just move past it. You created the fear, you can destroy it.
(it’s easy for me to say this, but I have trouble with it too. My mind can be scary sometimes xD)
I’ve been dabbling in imagining dark things, for the reason of becoming accustomed to them. Maybe its you giving yourself an opportunity to lighten up with these sort of thoughts. It can never be a bad thing if seen objectively. But do dip your toes in the realism of it. Baby steps are awesome steps.
When a fear we created already has a life of its own, it’s most probably irrational or exaggerated. And no one’s helping either. What everyone does is telling you to fear specific things, because people are fucked up too.
That’s what all fears are, they’re all mind made.
How do you face those fears in your mind? Just face them, it’s no more complicated than facing other fears.
Or you could learn a good release technique, and just release the fear.
