Sense of humor.

I’m Native American, and we definitely have our own unique flavour of humour which we call “Native Humour.” It’s ironic that we have the stereotype of the stoic Indian when really we’re fucking hilarious. It can be so strange, because I will be in a movie theatre and I can tell where all the Native people are sitting because we are the only ones laughing at certain things which no one else finds funny- and surely enough, when I leave the theatre I can see Native families and couples and friends leaving the theatre.
I’ve no way to explain this humour and it’s more of a phenomenon to me, and I’d like to keep it as such. We just laugh. We laugh at the silliest things that other people just don’t get. When growing up, if people got my “Native Humour,” we usually became great friends =)
That being said, do any of you guys believe you have a certain humour because of your background? Let me know, would be cool to hear!
Anyway, just thought I’d share my own personal insight on my type of humour.
@Alex, this may seem a little out of the blue, but….can we be best friends? :)
My family and I are really sarcastic, to the point where new additions to our family parties (friends, boy/girlfriends, etc) are thrown off a bit if they don’t get everything. I’m also a fan of ridiculousness and making fun of pop culture/politics…
I am also one of those who will be cracking up if someone acts goofy in the smallest way…like silly face contests? Can’t handle those. Skits? There was this one skit a couple counselors did at this camp I worked at last summer and they were pretending to be the Rockettes and one kicked the other in the face. He wasn’t hurt, but the skit nearly stopped because everyone was laughing so hard.
That’s just cute. Not funny. Stop trying. :D
I never really learned to tell jokes, so I don’t really have a personal sense of humor. I find random things funny, but can’t really find a common theme so it is hard for me to go out and find new funny things.
I used to watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s first few seasons, and I find Trailer Park Boys funny as well.
@Roseanne, I loved your response but I’m laughing at everything everywhere like a complete lunatic, or maybe just a childish fool, so there you go with the specifics. You made me wonder, at what exactly are you laughing? Please, tell me! :)
it’s no secret that the same shit cracks you and me up, my sense of humor is cheesy/lame. I was once accused of having a “low fun threshhold”, which I obviously considered a compliment despite the fact that it was intended as an insult.
I post Shel Silverstein poems here from time to time, his stuff kills me and I think he should be required reading for both grown-ups and kids. my 9 year old son and I crack each other up making up silly riddles. he brought this one home from school the other day:
Q. Why do giraffes have such long necks?
I also thought this video was pretty funny. He’s like my best friend though, so maybe I just like the guy.
What do you think?
laughter is the best, well cheapest medicine….too much laughter and they’ll medicate you for that too…laughter while pointing tends to keep others from laughing with you (especially the pointee)…..laughing at the pain of others wont make friends (no matter how funny an old lady slipping on a banana peel may look)…laughing to tears and aching sides, or until food emerges from ones nose is the equivalent of a ” laff OD”…get a grip…giggle junkie….smiles are a gateway to uncontrolled hilarity, so dont abuse them…just remember to….
i am so glad we are having a lolz thread. another animal photobomb
!! Manimal those first two cracked me uppp!
@Sasho Stoyanov, Wassup Sasho! Before I get down to business, jeez @Roseanne is gorgeous is she not? You see her website? alright anyway
I find myself laughing just about anything and as well. It’s all about perspectibe. I turn everything into a joke if I can and I’m in the mood. The best times are horror movies, ceremonies and ritual gatherings. People are not expecting a joke so I throw one out there, they shoot me a look like i’m blaspheming in purgatory. By the third or fourth, we can’t even hear the speaker over muffled laughter. It’s what life is about sometimes.
I find ridiculous things funny, if anybody has watched scrubs before… I’d say my sense of humour is almost identical to Turk and JD. Like creating little games with your mates like gravel foot, or hide the saltine.
Haha, I do the song thing too Manimal… Your humor really gets me sometimes. The one that I thought was hilarious recently, something along the lines of “Take what I’m saying with a grain of salt… Hell, take the whole salt shaker!”
