I’m Native American, and we definitely have our own unique flavour of humour which we call “Native Humour.” It’s ironic that we have the stereotype of the stoic Indian when really we’re fucking hilarious. It can be so strange, because I will be in a movie theatre and I can tell where all the Native people are sitting because we are the only ones laughing at certain things which no one else finds funny- and surely enough, when I leave the theatre I can see Native families and couples and friends leaving the theatre.
I’ve no way to explain this humour and it’s more of a phenomenon to me, and I’d like to keep it as such. We just laugh. We laugh at the silliest things that other people just don’t get. When growing up, if people got my “Native Humour,” we usually became great friends =)

That being said, do any of you guys believe you have a certain humour because of your background? Let me know, would be cool to hear!

Anyway, just thought I’d share my own personal insight on my type of humour.

@Roseanne, I loved your response but I’m laughing at everything everywhere like a complete lunatic, or maybe just a childish fool, so there you go with the specifics. You made me wonder, at what exactly are you laughing? Please, tell me! :)

@Uncle Myu, I make fun of people while their laughing and imitate their laughter. Then they start to laugh even more. Didn’t know… she has a website. But she is gorgeous on that pic. She may blush now. And I don’t care, man. It’s what life is about ALL THE TIME.

“The secret source of Humor itself is not joy but sorrow. There is no humor in heaven.” – Mark Twain

@Sasho Stoyanov, Wassup Sasho! Before I get down to business, jeez @Roseanne is gorgeous is she not? You see her website? alright anyway
I find myself laughing just about anything and as well. It’s all about perspectibe. I turn everything into a joke if I can and I’m in the mood. The best times are horror movies, ceremonies and ritual gatherings. People are not expecting a joke so I throw one out there, they shoot me a look like i’m blaspheming in purgatory. By the third or fourth, we can’t even hear the speaker over muffled laughter. It’s what life is about sometimes.

Well, shucks. Thanks @ Uncle Myu.
@Sasho @Manifestation It’s generally a silly teasing kind of funny… Sometimes it is at the expense of someone who has hurt themselves or made a fool of themselves. Sometimes it is the imagery of something… It’s kind of particular, because sometimes I will be cold to something that other people find so hilarious, but at the most random thing I will laugh my ass off. For instance, I LOVE the movie “Superbad,” but I don’t find “The Hangover” funny. I fake laughed during that whole movie, just because other people were laughing in the theatre, I kinda felt obligated to. But Superbad and Mean Girls- Holy shit! So funny.
I just know that when a “Rez” native is around, is generally when I laugh the hardest because they say really funny things and have a great sense of humour. I mean, it’s relative of course, just like any other group or community you have the funny guy, or the family jokester/clown.
If wanna see what I mean, check out the novel “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian,” by Sherman Alexie. If that book doesn’t awaken your inner Native humour, I don’t know what will.

I get laughing hard when someone hurts themselves. Minor stuff like stubbed toe, walking into things, stuff like that
