Strange home remedies!
Lets put a post together of a list of home remedies that seem to work without us really knowing why. Then if anyone is in need of a quick remedy can just check it out and pull what’s they need.
Of course this shouldn’t be a replacement for a doctor or any remedy for a serious illness or such but just simple things which are a nuisance and such.
The one I can vouch for right now is Hot lemon(squeezed or from concentrate) and honey is great for sore throats and coughs.
Another corny one would be Chicken Soup when you have a cold.
Anyone got any other ones they’d like to share?
Another amazing one for sore throats and coughs is to take boiling water and use two spoonfuls of honey and two spoonfuls of apple-cider vinegar. The taste is bearable once you get used to it. Also helps to prevent colds if you drink it every day, and I can personally vouch for the fact that it helps you get over them faster as well.
Scientifically, nothing is going to get you over a cold faster. That being said, science is not the be-all end-all so maybe Matt is right. Personally when I feel myself starting to get sick I’ll layer up before I go to sleep and try to sweat it out. Can be an uncomfortable night and you’ll wake up drenched but it works for me most of the time
Quick face mask for dry skin: honey. Spread it all over your face, massage it in, leave on for 5-10 minutes, rinse off with warm water and apply a bit of your usual moisturizer

headache: good orgasm usually does it, if not, massaging the temples with coarse sugar mixed in a little oil will do the trick
stuffy nose: sriracha or something spicy, let sit on tongue fr a while
Use a freshly cut lemon to get rid of acne and brighten up your skin. It also makes it tighter. Just rub a slice all over your face and let it dry. It really works. I was so suprised but this is one of my favorties now!
@Morgan, thanks for that one!
Your welcome! :D
A great website on home remedies is earthclinic.com, and I second @Matt on the the apple cider vinegar!
anyone here heard of Oil of Oregano? It’s got an active ingredient, Carvacrol, that’s antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal, etc. One of the ways it works is it heats up your body’s core, sore of like a fever, to help kill off whatever the infection is. It can be used internally and externally.
Best cure for hiccups! Put your hands behind your back, bend forward completely so that you are in right angle position, and have a friend or stranger feed you a glass of water. Works every time!
Something my grandma always gave me when I was feeling sick was a cup of hot water with a lemon wedge and 2 bay leaves. Always made me feel better, but that was probably because of my grandma’s love.
Clogged sinus/nose: Get some horseradish or strong mustard or garlic, put it in your mouth, chew and keep it there for a while. Swallow, then have a shot of apple cider vinegar.
Stomach pangs/rumbles: There is undigested food in your stomach and/or intestines. Fast for a few days. Get in front of a mirror, stick your tongue out, see that coating? When the coating is gone and your tongue is pink, the fast is finished. If your tongue has a coating, you’re overeating or ingesting things that cannot be digested properly (grains, soda, beer, processed milk, soy, hydrogenated oil, etc.) Your stomach will calm down and you will feel more energized and healthy than you can remember.
Dry skin: Rub some avocado on it.
Sore throat: Boil some water with sea salt, gargle it for a minute. Then eat some honey.
Fever: Get in the sauna, then take a cold shower.
if my kids gets sick i make them a bomb.
eat a tablespoon of this and it will kill what ever ails you, gaurenteed!
@stonedgragon I’ll have to try that then, lately I’ve had this very stubborn mycoplasm virus that won’t seem to go away without a fight.
yes manimal. try it twice a day with copius amounts of hot water.
also a great easy remedy is onions. a bowl of onions in the room cleans viruses from the air. cut an onion and put in your socks when you go to bed on your feet soles. it will pull the viruses from your body.and get rid of fever. an ear ache, half an onion tied on your ear. pulls out the infection .
Thanks for the tips. I’m not gonna use epson salts, that kind of stuff will wreak havoc on my body. My toxin tolerance is too low.
I already eat a lot of onions, so I don’t think that will do the trick. I’m beginning to suspect that the rumour about GM mycoplasm is true, because I haven’t been sick in a long time and this shit simply won’t go away. The epidemic has blown over, but most people here still have symptoms.
I’m starting a fast and hitting the bastu (steam room) starting tomorrow, that will probably do the trick.
yup fasting and chlor de magnesium will do about the same thing, except that you would do well to flush the system rather than starve it.
is this virus you are talking about what the french call gastro?
you dont need to eat the onions. just keep them around your room. they will suck the virusus out of the air.
Hemorrhoid cure, if you’ve had them or know someone who suffers, VIX vapo rub works.
@ljc32, it is hands down the weirdest, crazy remedy that I’ve ever heard of but it work, I’m not kidding. Tell your friends!

Sweet onion tea works wonders when you have a scratchy throat cough. When you feel a cough creeping up, just take a sip of the tea, cough goes away.
For an ear infection, you can heat some olive oil, pour it into your ear. If that doesn’t loosen anything up, you can try filling an old sock with salt, knotting it at the top, and putting it in the microwave for about a minute, and putting it on your ear. If it doesn’t empty your ear out, it will relieve the pain from the pressure.
Woohoo, Romanian remedies.
@danaundwatr, hey! what’s the recipe for the sweet onion tea? That sounds like it could definitely be applicable as we’re going into winter here at the moment…
@francina, I’m right in the middle of the blistering summer. You may well use the recipe more than I this season. You need to boil two onions, with the skin and all, in about a cup of water on low heat for about five minutes. Cover and let cool for about ten minutes. Strain the liquid into a cup, and dump a ton of honey in. Drink it when it’s warm for the best results.
