Not to get anyone depressed if the end of the world as we know it gets you down, but if this is in fact the last year us humans will dominate the planet, then I would like to know your view on how you think the world would end. And do you plan on surviving it?

This is just a hypothetic question.

We will create a singularity that leads to the end of the world as we know it. I very much hope this occurs in my lifetime.

My friend showed me this.

In 2005, it was the chinese year of the chicken.
We had bird flu that year.
In 2009 it was the year of the pig.
We had swine flu that year.
2012 is the year of the dragon.
Er…

(Actually 2009 is year of cow, but, well, it is close enough)

Quetzalcoatl, the Mayan god symbolizing the union of spirit and matter, will return. This half-bird half-snake god was the most important figure in Mayan mythology. It actually looks a lot like a dragon @Jack.

“@mime, come on, you can’t base your whole argument on the definition of how NASA uses a word…”

My argument was based on bunnies.

I’m not sure how most people tend to associate the word apocalypse with the end of the world?

Definition: Apocalypse
(“lifting of the veil” or “revelation”) is a disclosure of something hidden from the majority of mankind in an era dominated by falsehood and misconception

If anything, 2012 will be a revelation of human awareness. Hopefully with the use of internet, we can spread information faster than ever, and raise planetary consciousness. Hopefully we realize the importance of human life and our symboitic relatationship with the Earth. Then maybe we can unveil these imaginary boarders (nationality, race, religion, social status), that the wealthy elite would like us to believe exist; and actually start working together as a global community that benifits us all.

In light of this definition, I always wondered what Zombie Apocalypse would actually mean. Were we all zombies all along, a never realized it?

LOL @ Mime,

@ Cogito…

Maybe because revelation is followed by destruction.

Did you get that definition from wikipedia? you forgot to copy the other part of the definition: “By extension, apocalypse can refer to any End Time scenario, or to the end of the world in general.” The definition of the word Apocalypse is mostly associated to chaos and destruction.

And the keyword in your post is ‘most people’. the English language is alive and evolving, the meanings of words change. Gay used to mean happy, and here are more examples… http://writinghood.com/style/grammar/eight-words-which-have-completely-changed-their-meaning-over-time/

@ Sea Monkey

Yes I copied from wiki, and I left out that part intentionally, but here’s the part you left out “The Apocalypse of John is the Book of Revelation, the last book of the New Testament.”

That’s why it says by extention the word apocalypse can refer to an End of Times scenario. It would seem that most people associate Apocalypse with the end of times and chaos and destruction, out of ingorant assumption which stims from the Judeo-Christian Revaltions, assocaited with their End of Times, beliefs.

The scenario I propose assocaites peace and prosparity from an Apocalypse, in which important issues with the world are reveiled to the general population and they make good from it.

Chaos and destruction does not have to be associated with Apocalypse, it’s just usually generalized as such, usually out of mis-information.

“The world will end as we know it if everybody treats everyday like their last day. No one would go to work, heaps of people would start riots, rape, kill, do whatever they like because there would be no consequence. The whole world would just stop functioning, there would be no water, electricity, gas, Internet, etc.”

I’m sorry to bring this up again, But seriously! Do you really believe that’s what everyone would do?

Yeah me too. But fuck, I wouldn’t do that. I like to live everyday like it could be my last. Because no, we don’t know when the ‘world (as we know it) is going to end’ but we also don’t know when we are going to die either.

What does this say about society, and all the people -even on this thread- that would admit to causing chaos just because their imminent death was approaching, and they know when its going to happen. That just comes down to fear! Why would you stop going to work? Express any kind of harm towards something/someone? or riot?

Well that because you never really liked your work and did shit all about it. And because you held in all that anger towards a certain group, organization or person. Or it might not be anger? Maybe your last wish would be finding that person you always loved or always wanted to tell someone whatever. Regret. And pure fear, you were afraid to do all those things everyday and now you are bottling it all up in one last day.

As for the chaos and such? More fear, people are afraid of dieing. Also a lot of people have an insane amount of built up emotion and that they were not able to take out normally from day to day, than they feel like that can inappropriately express it just because death is coming, and we all feel that death is an ending with no consequences after.

My diagnosis to cure this seemingly impending mass death, is buck up and take a deep look into what you believe, and take a look at death. Face you fears everyday, and do what you want to do everyday DO NOT let your fears hold you back from doing something, learn from all your mistakes and learn from all the risks you take.

Also, since this thread was posted almost a years ago, and its so deathly close to the 2012 ‘dooms day’ What do you think about it all now?
