The Lost Society
Is society completely lost or is it just me? We are destroying our earth (thus destroying ourselves) by following these greedy fucking corporations blindly. All it takes is a little reason and a slightly opened mind and you will see what is truly going on. Sure, there are the exceptions like some of us here but really, in the broad spectrum of things, we all seem very, very lost.
People care more about what grade they got on their test or what the new style is, which is only because it’s easy to grasp onto. It’s almost like people are afraid to open the door to possibilities and to why, and what we are. Once you start thinking about those things it all becomes quite clear that what we are currently doing is wrong. We are not significant, and yet we are very significant. We are one miniscule part of this vast universal ocean. We are what it seems to be one of the only natural successes in the known universe. Except for some reason we are treating the very thing that created us horribly.
What will it take to open every one’s eyes and thrive?
“Remember love. The only hope for any of us is peace. Violence begets violence. If you want to get peace, you can get it as soon as you like if we all pull together. You’re all geniuses and you’re all beautiful. You don’t need anybody to tell you who you are or what you are. You are what you are. Get out there and get peace. Think peace, live peace, and breathe peace and you’ll get it as soon as you like.” – that same astute man
I have thought the same.. It seems to me pretty obvious that we are doing things wrong… but as obvious as it is.. we keep on doing them.
There is still a lot to overcome… I see a lot of violence and hate around the world these days.. But I also see many people that wants to change this world into something better… So I believe it is a process.. we cannot change the way things are in one day!.. but soon there will be a new “enlightenment” .. and maybe, and hopefully, in a couple of decades we will notice a change in us humans, and will understand, and change the way we live today for the better.
Nope. You can get love from all us 7 billion humans and you will still die.
FACT: All you need is air, water, food, and social interaction.
Needs and wants are very different. The above mentioned short list all are needs to sustain oneself.
I just wanted to mention that…
And so…. Rabble Rabble Rabble.
Take a look at this videos.. maybe you’ve seen them before:
hope you like them.. they really got me thinking…
Your society is shit, because it was founded on shit. The whole system needs to be torn down and replaced. And not through violent revolution. The problem is in the mentality of the people, that’s the cause of all this shit. Because if a revolution took place now and someone took the place of the leaders, they would soon be tyrants just like their predecessors.
People in general are thinking wrong, that’s why society sucks. Society is the sum total of the people in it. If you have lazy people, mean people, selfish people, angry people, sad people… well then that’s how that society will be. The problem is in the mind of the individual, but nobody wants to admit that. You’d rather point fingers at eachoter.. “It’s the government’s fault” … “It’s the immigrants’ fault” … “It’s the rich people’s fault” … “It’s the old and poor people’s fault” … “Illuminati conspiracy’s fault” … “God’s fault” … “The weather’s fault” … “Whatever’s fault, but not mine.”
You’re all equally responsible, don’t you fucking get it? If you aren’t solving it, you are a part of the problem. Anything you do becomes what your society is.
@Caitlin That very astute and wise man was also killed by the people who run your society. Just for his message.
Lost, perhaps. Most people do not see the big picture, nor do they even want to. When most people think their brain hurts or they slam into a brick wall of depression because the problems are too big and complex for them to solve. So they worry, instead, about what is more immediate to them, their math test or hair style. These are distrctions from the issues that make their brains ache. I say good on them, they are not wearing the weight of the world on their shoulder, they have a shot at “normality”.
@Manimal,”You’re all equally responsible, don’t you fucking get it? If you aren’t solving it, you are a part of the problem. Anything you do becomes what your society is.”–isn’t this just blaming society’s problems on someone else?
It is very easy to get wrapped up in mundane and unfulfilling bullshit if your mind is not being stimulated. It’s also easy to judge the people who do this but I choose not to. More judgement and division is the last thing we need. Maybe they just haven’t been exposed to the right information or the right format of information. They are just extra susceptible to the “norm” and their surroundings… This doesn’t necessarily make them bad people. Maybe a little weak minded but the amazing thing about humans is their adaptability. I think every person has it in them to change for the better. What they need is someone to show faith in them, or show them something new. You can’t criticize someone for getting sucked into stupid reality TV without knowing what a viable alternative would be. I try to ask people thought provoking questions or tell them about things they might find interesting. I try to push my own message in more of a passive way(because almost no one responds to being told what to do directly)… In other words, instead of saying “You’re doing this wrong”, I suggest alternatives that may work better.
I think part of your feeling “lost” is because of society’s indirectness with a lot of things. Because we have irrigation, people aren’t as apt to remember the way the land naturally works. Because we have tanning beds, people don’t have to go outside to look like they actually have. Because of money and the following constant consumerism, people are more inclined to forget what its like to produce something yourself or know how something fully works. It’s tough to work through all of the indirect qualities, regardless of its effects.
PS Ellie… u rite.
@Caitlin I think you misunderstood me.
I am not blaming anyone, I am pointing out the responsibility of each and every individual. And everyone in this society as a whole.
I am not part of that society, and I don’t support it, I do not care about it, want it or like it. I don’t take anything from it. I’m NOT a part of it. Pointing your finger at me is unjustified. If I was in your society I would take full responsibility, but I’m not.
I didn’t say that you agreed with murder. But at the end of the day, just by living and working in that society you are supporting the leaders and letting them do what you want. Such are the rules. There is no changing it. The only opetion for those who want freedom is abolishment and/or destruction of the current western society.
Our society wasn’t exactly planned, it just sort of happened like this. Here in America at least, we’re basing our civilization off of a 200 plus year old document that was created for an agricultural society, I think we might be due for an overhaul. It should start with our education system; we need to teach children from the very beginning that they need to take the initiative to make things better. So many people have the attitude that the world’s problems are someone else’s responsibility, that someone else is going to take charge and fix things, and they can just go about their merry way and ignore all the violence and poverty in the world.
Andrew, there’s that…. and there’s this:
Haha, well I guess that’s just as reasonable a conclusion as “the earth is shaking” when you think about it.
Nice response :)
I do my best ;)
This society we live in WORLDWIDE is shit, its fucked up, in fact it so fucked up I would be teaching you guys some new colorful word to describe it if I actuely knew such words. The point is that the hole wordwide socio-economic system must be rebooted, restarted somehow, wiped out clean and completely remodeled would be best.
Yeah I think what everyone is touching on is that we are the society. Every single one of us makes up this society. To fool yourself into thinking that you are “just another person” is why we are in this shitty situation. Realize that you are important, we all are important, we are one, and we can overcome. All of us who, at the core, are all very, very similar. We can change this world. We HAVE to change this world.
Ok *yawn* this is getting circular and still just as vague.
Globalization with no government. No one can run this world properly, so why have someone running it? Get rid of the monetary system and use a library type of system. Set a system based on the scientific method so it is set up for flaws, not a set in stone fucking contract that we always have to follow, even when it is no longer relevant in today’s society. Use hydroponics, geothermic energy, solar energy, wind energy, etc. Now this is just basically a very simple summary of the Venus Project. It does have flaws, but is better than what we have now.
@manimal, I agree. We are all responsible. We are lazy. We have the State and corporations “run things” (even though we are the ones truly running society). We tell the government to make us safe and so what is best for us which has never truly happened consecutively. We have corporations feed us so we don’t have to do the “dirty work” and yet we show up to a job so that we aren’t bored.
People always ask me why I hate jobs. I ask how do they like theirs? They tell me they would get bored without it. A strange response if you ask me, seeing as we live on a flying rock in space that extends into infinity.
@blankey, Yeah, it takes a tremendous effort to be bored, and several metric shitloads of ignorance and hatred.
There’s an unlimited number of possibilities, so many things to eperience and enjoy, so many fucked up things to make right, how could you be bored? Takes a gigantic load of stupidity to even get close to bored.
Like the typical kid today, “There’s nothing to do” when they’re sitting at the computer with the whole internet at their disposal, and so much more. And on top of that, the kitchen sink is full of dirty stuff, the room is dusty and littered with trash, and that beer gut isn’t getting any smaller, that bank account isn’t getting fuller, that life isn’t getting more meaningful or rewarding, etc. etc. etc.
How can a person ever be bored? It baffles me.
@manimal, We must turn our boredom into gratitude.
In another sense, it is not just you. I have seem myself as alienated from a broken world. Many others and maybe most others admit to at times having the same illusion. So the illusion you are having that society is fucked up, while common, is nothing but an illusion. There is nothing wrong with society or any members of it. Everything is and will be fine.
