3 Common Causes of High Blood Pressure

Having your blood pressure checked on a regular basis is the only way to know if you suffer from high blood pressure, also known as hypertension, which has many causes and risk factors. While there is no single cause of high blood pressure, there are a variety of factors that can contribute to it. Let’s take a look at some conditions that can cause high blood pressure.

One of the major leading causes of high blood pressure in men and women is being overweight. Both high blood pressure and obesity have seen a rise in those developed countries where this is a problem. The early warning signs of other health problems including high blood pressure are warning signs. One way to reduce risk is to start an exercise regimen and change your diet. One of the most common causes of high blood pressure is stress. Calming your stress levels can be as easy as processing your stress in more healthy ways. For example, you can be very busy and still learn how to relax, or you can be a "Type A" personality and let everything upset you. People who are frequently angry, tense or stressed out are more likely to develop hypertension. These can all raise your blood pressure, and if you often experience these emotions, it’s important to find a way to manage them, for both your physical and emotional health. Reducing your stress is a great way to get your high blood pressure under control.

High blood pressure can also be caused by sleep apnea. This is a sleep disorder that makes it difficult to breathe normally when sleeping. People with sleep apnea often snore, as this is a symptom of obstructed breathing when sleeping. People with sleep apnea are often tired throughout the day because they are not getting restful sleep. While people who smoke or are overweight are more likely than average to have sleep apnea (as well as high blood pressure), the only way to diagnose this condition is to have tests done at a sleep disorder center. It’s important to find out if you have this problem because chronic sleep apnea can contribute to high blood pressure and heart disease. High blood pressure has been referred to as the silent killer because of the fact that there are no symptoms and isn’t always diagnosed until it is much worse. Have your doctor check your blood pressure regularly, become familiar with the causes listed here in this article in order to better your position to keep your blood pressure at a healthy level.
