Valhalla Movement Update – 11/12/12

Jordan Lejuwaan (@jordan) 5 years, 7 months ago

*** For those unfamiliar with the Valhalla Movement: Also be sure to read this article series: ***

It’s hard to believe this movement only started up 3 months ago. Since the last update we have…

– Been interviewed on a 8 min segment of the most popular talk radio show in Montreal
– Been featured on the local news
– Attended a 3 day Earthship conference where Michael Reynolds himself (founder of Earthships) taught us how to build Earthships
– Seen and worked on other Earthship projects
– Received dozens of emails from people either wanting to come help, or help remotely
– Launched the website:
– Planned out our first massive, two-story Earthship to be constructed as soon as the snow melts in Spring
– Threw a 250+ person party at our house to raise funds for solar panels (huge success)

Beyond those concrete actions, the vision for Valhalla has become much more clear over the last month.

As you can tell, everything is falling into place. The universe is obviously behind this project because the right people and resources continually pop up at the right time.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for the website, specifically for making what we are doing more clear!

Much love <3

@jamescarson, Perhaps not my most professional article title…but this get’s the point across better than anything I’ve seen on the web :) — There is also a documentary about them called ‘Garbage Warrior’.

@tantchula, I’m with you man. I can’t wait for the day when this community has expanded to building out additional communities for others. The rule I have in mind is that when a person comes to the community, they get help building their Earthship, and then they have to help out 3 other people with their Earthships.

We’re almost done with our press kit, which we’re going to be spamming out to business and organizations in hopes of finding sponsors and partners. Yes, we’re definitely going to do a Kickstart project in early 2013 for the intitial Earthship. We’re working on the specific architectural plans right now so that we can be within the Kickstarter guidelines.

This sounds like a great plan! I look forward to seeing how it progresses!

Living in a house/block with about 30 other people was a really good time. It didn’t always go totally smoothly but it was nice to always have some people around as well as the ability to have privacy when you wanted it. I think, considering the kind of people who would get involved, this could be something really fantastic. I was just thrown in with random people, though we were all at the same university, and it was fine. This could be so much better!

It’s difficult to imagine it in reality but I can’t shake the feeling that this is something I would really like to be involved in. It’s just so different from how I thought I would be living, though.

Good luck and I’ve subscribed to this so I look forward to updates! :)

@jordan, Bumpitty bump? What’s happening in Valhalla these days? Mostly quieted down for winter?

skylerpants (17) (@skylerpants) 5 years, 5 months ago ago

I just got wayyyyy excited upon reading this. I’m very interested.

Marc (163) (@rusty16x) 5 years, 5 months ago ago

@xyver To give you some updates tons of stuff is going on! We are prepping things like our mission video – FAQ question videos – extra features on the website – guerilla marketing campaigns – kickstarter campaign and also the planning of the earthship itself and greenhouses!

Basically we aren’t building in winter but we are creating content – making vital connections – and chipping away at the goal each and every single day – we also have a few people who will be moving here shortly!

this looks amazing. IMHO, The site could use as many transparent video’s as possible so folks can see how it operates.

At this moment, what are your guys immediate needs?

Marc (163) (@rusty16x) 5 years, 5 months ago ago

@cheeky, the site will be loaded with as many transparent videos as we possibly can – we do regularly load our meeting logs on the site where we gather as a group and discuss all the ideas surrounding the project as well as what we are doing moving forward

There are so many immediate needs that its very hard to just list off!

We always need more input from other people – be it artwork, music, inspirational images, marketing ideas, video work, graphic design work etc.

We need to establish connections with new sponsors for the project – launch a giant kickstarter campaign – and secure a funds to film a documentary on the entire process!

@rusty16x, 10 4. Sorry, i missed the videos. They look great!

I also have a ton of land in Virginia I am going to check out this year… maybe we could start one in the states?

I am an IT Director and have alot of Cisco data/voice gear if you guys think that could help. I’ll keep thinking about other stuff too. If you can come up with the list, I think you’ll be suprized what people will donate to this initiative.

Take care,

Marc (163) (@rusty16x) 5 years, 5 months ago ago

I agree – the list does need to be made – the problem is there is so much that needs to get done and we must prioritize all of them without compromise which is requiring more and more time and effort!

Luckily we are of the attitude of putting one foot in front of the other and taking it all day by day and such is allowing us to move everything forward beautifully as a group!

What do you mean by data and voice gear? @cheeky,

@jordan, came across this website on a Valhalla ad actually…. I’ve seen it here and there, so I clicked to see what it was about. Read up on it, loved everything about it. Continue doing what you’re doing guys!
