I think having a special segregated channel for gay people sends the wrong message. It makes it look as though there’s a huge gulf between gay and straight people. I’d rather see more programming that both gay and straight people would enjoy on the one channel. because in reality there is very little difference between the two. Why not have a red heads only channel next? Or a mexican channel? It’s creating conceptual barriers where there are none. |

Hi Nelson! That is also the TV channel you are working on, right? So if you found a personal project where you can meet people and work for a cause you care about, I think it’s great! At the same time, it sounds like you are actually asking 3 questions in one: what do folks think aobut gay TV, what do they think about that station with its specific goals, and what do they think about the fact you’re participating. So just keep in mind that most people will see the first variant in your post :) All the best, Paul |

I don’t understand how specialized media helps anyone. Not only is it segregative, but it implies that homosexuals need specialized entertainment. To be fair none of us should be buying into most major media outlet entertainment for the negative racial and gender stereotypes they perpetuate. Unless GAY TV is a gender neutral channel that isn’t going to ruining their social movement with more trash like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy then I’m all for it. |

I agree with Stephen. The gay community wants equality. However, I don’t believe that they will get that if they continue to have parades with rainbows and dance around half naked in the streets. I understand that some are born flamboyant, but it doesn’t mean that you need to show it off. If they want equality then having separate sectors of media is not the way to go. On the other hand, if normal media begins to incorporate homosexuality more, such as the TV show Brothers and Sisters on ABC, then society will eventually become more open to it. |
