What is music to you?

I am deeply into music, it helps me to translate my emotions into something i can work with. At least i figure thats how it must work. As a by-product of this i sometimes come up with strange fantasy duets, or mixes. I would really appreciate if someone would have some thoughts or any feedback, ideas, or similar experiences.
I will post a link to my youtube channel where you can find some of the stuff.

@ Phil — I love what you said “it gives rhythm to chaos.” Wow. And I love that dubstep song. That’s my kind of music right there.

Certain songs make me feel high — I love that can appreciate music without drugs. My friend always tells me he thinks that in heaven, we get to listen to our favorite songs as though it were the first time, so we get that natural high over and over again.

I play the piano to release my stress and express what words cannot always say — (Feel free to check it out http://www.myspace.com/paintapianopurple).

I prefer to play without lyrics, but I also write with lyrics, like here:

But all in all, I think Phil said it best.

Einstein said it better than I could have:

“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music. … I get most joy in life out of music.”

“Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.”-Jimi Hendrix
That quote by hendrix in itself says enough. To me,if after silence there is anything which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible its music:)
You learn a lot about people when you listen to the songs that mean something to them! Thats the way to realease urself of negativity..the best detox ever!

I would strongly suggest reading The Music Lesson: A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music by Victor Wooten. Blows minds.

Hi there,

Most of my life revolves around music. I play and listen to music most of the day everyday and being a musician it is my profession. Music makes me feel incredible be it playing or listening to it. I don’t know what I would do without it because it helps me in so many ways. It helps me to get over something that has brought me down, it helps we work out, it helps me get geared up to party. I can not get enough of it. There is so much to appreciate in music and so many parts of it that can tear up your emotions. A lyric, chord change or groove of a song can make you feel so many different ways. It also reminds me of times that have passed. I have certain songs that were my favorite songs that I will no longer listen to because they remind me of a darker me in the past.

Music is a reflection of humanity. Music comes from the primal urge to scream and create. It is an organization or collection of sounds that resonate with people in different ways.

The barber violin concerto took me out of a major depression. I really think the right piece at the right time can save you.

Music is truth. Music is the ‘realest’ thing about the universe. If people contemplate if math describes reality, I say music does a better job.

its a connection. or interaction with self to community. I’ll take it even further by saying its a connection to a parallel universe if you will, and what have you, because its that inspirational. Maybe it’s even divine. It’s a powerful force made easy by man for unity of living to living, or living to non living. It’s to love all that is around you. It’s great.

For me, music is life. Really, I don’t think I would be able to be happy without having music in my life. It is my energy source that I rely on and it’s the force that makes me happy when the day has been shitty. Under influences, music is the most beautiful feeling any person can experience. You not just hear the music, but you also “feel” the music. You feel it pulse through your body until the music and yourself is in complete sync. Music is what the world is made of and without it, our world would be empty of creativity, hope, and life.

A way of communicating that transcends language, because it is communication by emotion, rather than communication by the name or idea of an emotion.
For example, I can listen to a song and write or say how I feel using language, but I cannot use those words to express what I feel as much as hearing the music for yourself.
