What's up with Chakras?

From my own experience – real. But what’s funny is I have no proof that it isn’t just a placebo effect brought on by my mind. My personal experience has been, for example, while I’m meditating, I think about “cleansing” the 7 chakras, one by one, as was suggested I should do. As I imagined each chakra one by one, I felt what I can only assume is energy in that actual spot of my body.
Whether or not chakras are real depends on your belief in them. All I know is the mind is a powerful thing. Because literally, a single thought is as real as anything and everything else that exists.
@chodebalm, That’s really cool dude. I am interested in understanding them, but I think I’d have trouble due to my lack of faith in it.
The whole thing just seems a big sensation exercise to me. They teach you about emotions, interconnectedness, borderline meditation rituals, and thought control. It’s great don’t get me wrong, it’s literally a step above live exorcisms in the church where the people would speak in tongues. And it makes more people spiritually self dependent, while cutting the involvement of organized religion. It has potential in my opinion.
If you do not have an awesome view, another person, or just maybe you are on the bus, use your third eye, its handy. Just visualize your third eye, open the eyelid and now just look through it without any thought at all, just keep looking through it. You can go about your business with the third eye open all day if you want. So many methods to bring about stillness, it also works just to watch your brains, see where the thought comes from. Again, no judgement, no desire for results, you are just watching.
I believe a human’s strength stems from the spinal cord outward, and it would seem reasonable that one’s energy would also stem from different areas in the spinal cord.
I think of my chakras as spinning balls of energy that generate my aura, or magnetic field, while relating to and interacting with my body as well. A tether of one’s energy to one’s mass.
I practice a cleansing visualization of these during meditations, but not nearly as often as I would like to! :)
Slip on headphones and give this a listen. See if you feel anything. You might or you might not, but I do.
@mitch, My sister is a chiropractor and deals with both Chakras and energy meridians.
Yes, they are electromagnetic and energetic physics of the subtle body as it fills the physical body with energy. For me they have always functioned spontaneously, without needing my direct control. For example I was listening to a meditation the other day and the heart chakra burst open or something, sending warm tingles into the chest and vibrations up the spine. I had compassion for people who I was very angry at a few hours before. Can I prove what it was? no, but It makes sense given the attributes of the heart Chakra and the specific meditation I was listening to being about love.
It’s not needed to really focus on them unless you do a lot of drugs and tangle them up. For some people Chakras become another mystic religion that controls their behavior and thought. I don’t think they need to become highly important because they are part of a cosmic ship that steers itself. They help people learn that they are more than body mechanics.
Wel, let’s begin with this- What does the word REAL denote? I mean is anything real or fixed? I do not believe so, what you construct in the mind to be real or not becomes just that.. I have studied the Chakra system both in an academic sense and a personal one. I also teach yoga, meditate regularly and spend time with like minded people. The chakra system is a part of the energy anatomy system, this system is said to recieve absorb and express prana (life force) within the body Chakra or “wheel” indicates movement in these energy centers. There are seven main chakras, and several others that have been added and understood to be important. The Chakra system serves to vitalize the entire being, Western thought has leans toward treating the symptom in our medical system, you have a headache- oh heres a pill. You are fat? get surgery. You are depressed? Here shovel some pills that will make you a zombie into your body. This way of thinking is disturbing as well as a reality here in America. The Chakra system used in India and other Eastern medicine schools of thought is the opposite of our ways it is looking at our entire being and the interpermeation of our minds bodies and souls, this is not only a more loving, personal form of healing but a highly more effective way. Prana, as I mentioned before is life force in yoga we practice pranayama, deep breathing to vitalize the prana in our bodies, another interesting thing about prana is that it is most active and there is more of it at sunrise at the beginning of the cycle that is the day..:) Anyways, Prana and our energy is constantly in flux, the chakras begin at the base of the spine (mulahdara chakra) and ascend up to the crown of the head (sahasrara chakra) the base chakra is associated with our ROOT , element- earth, associated with the adrenal gland, color red, Key Word GROUNDING <3 The Psychology of the base is feeling secure, safe. The next chakra is Svaadisthana- our sacral area this is associated with our ovaries and testes. Element -Water Color-Orange The psychology of this one- feeling sensuality, creativity, flowing. We now move to the Manipura Chakra -Our naval solar plexus, Pancreas, Element- Fire, Color- Yellow. Psychology here- manifestation, sense of self, ego. We then move to Anahata or our Heart Chakra, thymus, Color-Red, element- Air, Psych- Love, relationships self love devoton compassion. Then up to our throat Chakra- Vishuddha, thyroid gland, element- space, ether Psych- Communicaton, self expression, speaking your truth, independence. Now to the 3rd eye Ajna Chakra :)OMMM Associated with our pineal gland(* This will be mentioned again later.. The third eye is associated with our intuition our self purpose and UNIVERSAL VISION of onelove<3 The last chakra you are said to achive once all these are stable is the crown chakra or Sahasrara.. This is our pituitary gland, associated with our cosmic consciousness , our connection to our source..Stardust?:) Color- White, Element- Citta…So if these come out of balance, one is said to have all sorts of ailments: Depression, Anxiety, Obesity, Hyperactivity,Insomnia, Moodiness, Anger, ailments our society treats with pills that only worsen our bodies minds and souls..All to make a buck. The chakra system is you, it is me it is the center of the flow of energy from all life back into all of life. An example I have found in my own chakras- If my root chakra is not fulfilled, lets say I have no where to live, my energy becomes focused on this area and stagnant stuck- because of this my other energetics become weakend, the solution- finding what I need to be secure- A roof over my head, enough to eat, Then I can work on my emotions, my animalistic ways, my sensuality, loving my body and not just giving it away, after i larn this I can begin to manifest my deepest dreams, move them up into my heart where the love will make them FLY, then in my throat I will find my voice in the world, to speak my truth and love others for doing the same, which then connects me to my third eye, my visions, my premonitions, my ability to communicate with only my mind and heart, to finish sentences of those I am around to FEEL energy, as this is more and more fuffiled i begin to connect to my universe my, love my light, feeling the universe ebb and flow through me Seeing me in All and All in me<3
So I would say yes, they are very real, they differ from person to person but we are all the same in this energetic way, love is the remedy to these problems in our world, we need balance and this system is so wonderful to learn about and tap into. I wanted to mention also that there is flouride in the tap water which is known to significantly deteriorate the pineal gland thereby separating us from our source and truth and love. We are fed terrrible foods to throw off our base chakra and get stuck there never reaching our potential as truly loving compassionate beings, one love one light. Much love and light to you hope this made some sort of sense hahaha!<3
@manimal, makes a good spiel here: http://www.highexistence.com/topic/chakras-and-how-to-clearopen-them/
@cognizantelephant, For something to be real you need to experience it. From my personal experience, and from others on this site, there is an energy current that runs through the body. If you are able to still the incessant stream of anxious/pointless thoughts and really observe the internal workings of the body, you free up energy within the body that goes towards healing it. Chakras are the Hindu description of this. Chi or qi energy is what the Chinese and Zen teachers call it. Any real martial artist knows how to direct and work with this energy. Ironically, almost every culture other than the modern western culture has a name for it and recognizes it as a natural part of the body. The problem is our culture is completely identified with the external, with thinking and intellectualizing everything. It doesn’t matter if you believe in ‘chakras’ or not, you can know the reality of it yourself.
I don’t know but I can feel really intense energy pooling in certain parts of my body at will. Turns out those parts of my body match up where my chakras are supposed to be, so I just assume they’re chakras. Or freaky cancer.
Also, according to some scientific studies using fMRI and PET tech, meditation is much grander than the placebo effect. The neural mechanism is more complex and the physiological effects are way more pronounced.
Just like to add.. sensing the ‘chakras’ or whatever you want to call it, is just a byproduct of awareness, not an end in itself. And what happens eventually as you go into it more is far beyond just feeling subtle vibrations in random places.. It just happens when you become more rooted in your body instead of being in your mind/thinking/unaware/unfeeling all the time.
