Why do bad things happen to good people?

for those who believe in Karma, it’s a good question.

But in general, i think that it really depends on what is “bad” and what is “good” since we all define it differently. What I have come to learn though is that life is not “good or bad” or black and white. There is so much gray area. sometimes seemingly good things turn out to be bad and vice versa.

Look at the bad thing as an oppurtunity or experience that you can learn from. Its true there is so much grey area, just think of whatever it is as possibly a good thing. Every good/bad is what you make it to be.

@luigi Well I’d say bad is death and good is life.
But in some cases unwanted life is a bad and to a person with sickness death is good.

I think it happens to build character..bad stuff happens to good people to either help them realize they shouldnt be so nice or to help overcome plight

Some bad things are indiscriminate, like getting caught in an earthquake.
Some are brought on by the persons ignorance, like not understanding the relationship between road conditions, tire conditions, and driver limitations.
Some brought on by the persons stupidity, like the person who believes that they do not control their own destiny.

You know, to see if they’re as good as he thinks they r.

Hannah, you’re on to something there. We appreciate the wonderful things in life more when we have bad experiences to compare them to.
Yeah, Karma does not exist, at least not in a linear sense that we can observe. Relativity, cause and effect do exist and natural things are not malicious or benevolent they just are. If they affect us with loss we will think they are bad but really it has no intent of it’s own.
Then there is human error which may be negligence or accident, this is where damage happens without intent. Then there is the will and intent of malicious people that causes damage.
Regardless of cause the fact is we are all fair game in a world subject to the laws of physics, nature and the intricacies of the human psyche.

good and bad are perception.. not real things as far as the universe is concerned. praying to a god or doing good deeds aren’t going to void you of bad experiences. In the human prospective bad things happen to good people because bad things happen to all people.
