Why is twitter so popular?

Love it or hate it twitter is here to stay, but why is it so popular?
It must be more than because it is free?

Good for news, and business. You don’t have to wait for things to be ‘official’ things happen in real-time.

Great point Alex, the world is moving so fast and if you dont keep up to date
you get left behind. Twitter is one of the best tools for keeping up to date.

When lulzsec was going strong, I used twitter to stay more up-to-date then the news. Also when shit breaks out in other countries, we get the real news easier from twitter. Twitter is a great tool for a revolution. If shit went down, twitter would be the place to go.

I think it’s a good thing. Just don’t follow people who are misusing it. It’s that simple. Idiots want to feel like celebrities, and it’s pretty obvious who those folks are.

because you can make smart-ass comments to people across the world. also, you can basically text somebody without having to get their phone number. It’s slightly less personal but that makes it that much more accessible.

There’s no law that says you have to tweet mundane shit.

Because people love to post their pointless bullshit and hope that some other miserable dumbass gives a fuck about their lame life.

Of course that’s not all you can do with twitter, but it’s the reason why it’s popular.

Great comment Max, I only follow people who tweet regularly, have a profile and who have a decent blog or website. Twitter can be a good thing, its a shame some people dont use it that way.

Nothing is a shame about Twitter. When you have a website like that people are going to abuse it, use it for fun, use if for business or just to waste time. You can do whatever you want with it, as long as you can fit it into 140 characters. Thats one good thing about it is you can follow whoever you want until you get bored with them – then just unfollow them! Unlike Facebook where you can have thousands of friends and not look at a single thing they say. Its all in good fun – and good business.

Because people like new information at a rapid pace, and they don’t want to have to read a lot.

I want to make one so I can tweet every time I touch myself. Inappropriate? Sure, but I can’t think of any better use (for me that is).

@Kevin – hahaha, I would totally follow that.

A lot of porn stars have twitters. I’m currently following Sasha Grey for some reason. But I never use twitter, so I don’t really see her tweets.

I think i totally agree with Manimal on this one.

I use it mainly to know when artists and producers are touring to see if i can catch them at a show.

I keep in contact with a lot of friends through it. Its more fun to talk on Twitter than on Facebook. I also follow a lot of celebrities because its fun :) And you know when they are putting out something new. I also follow a lot of businesses and can get good deals that way. I follow the Mayor from my hometown which is a really fun way to keep up on things there. I follow a lot of news stations too. And I follow people whose blogs and webcomics I read. You get to have so much stuff in one place, it’s great! :)
